The heading of this thread strangely reminded me of this.....

    https://news.yahoo.com/lawsuit-accuses-costco-neglect-abandonment-162101155.html

A new lawsuit accuses Costco of 'neglect and abandonment' of its $4.99 rotisserie chickens

    • Two Costco shareholders filed a lawsuit that claims the company mistreats its chickens.
    • The lawsuit says Costco's rotisserie chickens are bred too big to stand on their own and suffer.
    • Costco has previously said that it maintains ethical and humane processes in its supply chain.
Costco is facing a lawsuit over its breeding and treatment of chickens that are sold in stores as $4.99 rotisserie chickens, The Nebraska Examiner first reported. Plaintiffs say that Costco is violating its fiduciary duty to shareholders by not acting lawfully.

The lawsuit, filed in Costco's home state of Washington, accuses the membership club of "illegal neglect and abandonment" in its Nebraska chicken facility. This mistreatment is "an integral part of the company's poultry production strategy and its business model," according to the lawsuit viewed by Insider.

Costco did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment. The company previously told Insider that "Costco is committed to maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare, humane processes, and ethical conduct throughout the supply chain," in response to a 2021 report by an animal-rights group, Mercy for Animals.

The new lawsuit is centered on Costco's chicken-processing plant. To keep costs as low as possible, in 2019 Costco opened the $450 million facility in Nebraska, which processes about 2 million chickens a week, with plans to eventually supply nearly half the chain's total chickens.

The suit was brought by two Costco shareholders who say that Costco knowingly breeds chickens too large to stand up, and the "disabled birds slowly die from hunger, thirst, injury, and illness." Costco executives are named as defendants for ignoring reports of the abuse....................

This is a good point. As inflation rises, financial penalties for crimes will not increase immediately, so criming may become an attractive option.

It other news, I saw gas below $5 today for the first time in a bit. I know oil dropped below $100, not that we'll see that at the pump any time soon. Way too many factors.

I had some chocolate covered macadamia nuts the other night. Closest I can get to the big island any time soon. That might be a honeymoon spot in a few months.

Flights for October were under $300. As long as you plan ahead of time, you can find good deals.

And currently, flying into Kona is very much cheaper than flying into Hilo.

I left my truck parked at the Hilo airport for two years and when we got back there it was covered in dust with a dead battery...the guys who worked there jump started it for me and I drove off like it was yesterday....not many airports where you could leave a car for two years and find it when you got back..one of the most chill airports on earth...that parking lot was always empty

There seems to be abandoned cars all over the Island.....and no one seems too concerned. But then, between the climate and the shitty roads and highways, vehicle longevity isn't a thing here.......

My first car on the island was a 250 dollar rust bucket Toyota hatchback that I soon found out...every other Hawaiian I met had owned at one time or another.....car theft has a short shelf life on an island with one 3oo mile long road. They'll find your car. I never took the keys out of the ignition of my car there...seemed pointless.

Have you been to the Hilo dump? There are huge Banyon trees growing through old 1940s cars..it's really abstract to see. Maybe Pele wiped out that spot ...

There are transfer stations all over the Island and we go every 3-4 days but I haven't been to the Hilo site. Mountainview is closed because a tree fell on the roof covering the drop boxes (and Island Time decrees there is no big hurry to fix it). So we use the Volcano station. You meet all kinds of interesting folks at these places. And if you're looking for a free range chicken dinner, the transfer stations are like open air supermarkets. All you have to do is be crafty enough to catch them......

What flightmare? Delta posts a whopping $735 million profit in second quarter even as it canceled more than 4,000 flights in May and June and CEO admitted 'none of us were up to our best'
    • Delta Airlines executives announced on Wednesday the company earned a whopping $735 million in the second quarter of 2022
    • Its earnings per share, though, fell short of Wall Street expectations, which executives blame on high fuel prices and widespread cancelations
    • The Atlanta-based carrier had the most canceled flights over the Memorial Day and Juneteenth weekends, canceling more than 4,000 in May and June
    • CEO Ed Bastian has now admitted 'none of us were up to our best'
    • He said the company tried to make up for two years of lost revenue during the pandemic and get the most out of a post-pandemic travel boom
