Okay, I agree that it was possible, but not likely, that both could have been used had they not signed Payton. The second part is opinion. I think the Blazers see Payton as more important to team success than you do.
I didn't say anything about Payton not being a good signing. I'm saying the Payton signing made it impossible to use both. That's a fact, not an opinion.
Fischer said we're most likely done and this is the team. Tried hard to move Bledsoe and couldn't find any takers.
The opinion part is your statement that signing Payton and forgoing using Bledsoe’s contract indicates the team isn’t dedicated to winning.
Oh boy. It's a good thing we had many posters telling us we were overreacting since we were only 24 hours into free agency.
he also said we were never realistically in the running for KD/Simmons/etc so they pivoted to GP2 to improve on-ball defense. Also mentioned the GP2 connections with Dame's agency and the GP (sr) -Dame connection as a reason for why we went after him.
But if you do this in February its only a minimum contract the new signee is paid for the rest of the season; much smaller than the guaranteed amount for Didi. Or if someone is injured on an expiring trade them away and replace with a minimum in the same manner, etc.
it might if you trade him at the trade deadline and sign somebody on a 10-day that morphs into a pro-rated minimum deal. That would only add 300K or less if it's somebody with no NBA experience if Portland wants to get out of the tax it probably won't be hard to do
Bledsoe is a nice player. He will be a quality asset off the bench for someone. I wish he could have stayed on a min. deal.
My guess is that Ant or Nurk will have an unlikely incentive this year as part of their contract like All-Star or MVP that will get them just below the tax line after stretching Bledsoe. They'll still have to count that against the hard cap, but when their final numbers become official at the end of the season, it will be just below.
that sound plausible. I know Croin has a bad rep around here but he's supposed to be proficient at cap-mechanics
How could we have gotten Collins without the 7th pick? And would we want that defensive deficiency as a starter? I'm not sure... We aren't going to be signing any free agents for less than other teams. We are not a free agent destination. I don't think Ingles at his age and coming off that injury is a needle mover... Eh, whatever. The team will be sold anyway. They aren't going to spend huge unless it's a sure thing.
This off-season is going great. Not an epic fail at all so far. Managed to add a guard and resign a marginal backup PF/C. Woohoo! Who needs forwards and players taller than 6’6/6’7?
They will be better than us next year with a rising superstar in Edwards....... And they love spamming this forum with Oden dong pics.
