Now THAT was an epic disaster.

How many times do we need to see this sort of thing happen before we bring a priest/monk to bless Moda? Can we at least get Kyrie to burn some sage the next time he's here? There is no justice in this universe and I feel so bad for the kid.

Between his nervous look and goaltend (remember GO's first play in SL when he decided to block an outside jumper at the rim because he had so much adrenaline?), I was already getting Oden vibes. The injury only exacerbated those feelings. Oden at least played multiple games in Vegas.

Please don't let this injury be serious.

From the few minutes i watched tonight? No way that guy sees the court this year. Certainly not unless they are garbage time.

I agree. Watford was clearly told to push the ball up the court as soon as he got the rebound. He was trying to do too much and was often out of control. I still prefer him at PF but he was playing center for the most part.

In the regular season, I think he can give us strong minutes when paired with more experienced players. However, if he doesn't improve his outside shot, Jabari will pass him on the depth chart.

I will preface this with the fact that I have not watched a whole lot of Blazers basketball last year, for obvious reasons. But I have watched a little bit of highlights (or lowlights). I did sit through 3 quarters of this game.

First, even tho we have not seen much of Sharpe, he did look more tentative than, say, Simons was, in the little time he was in the game - and unlike Simons did not do anything off the handle to penetrate the defense. That turn-around jump shot was good. Obviously, too little time to really tell anything. Could just have been early game jitters.

Watford is the kind of player that you really want to see next to better players. He seemed like he tried, too much, to run the offense.

Walker looked good for a rookie. Did not look like he tried to do too much was seemed like Watford's issue.

Only player that really impressed me as ready to contribute was Keon. He is not likely to be a star, but he seems like an NBA rotation guy out there.

Time to Shake it Off...get your head right, come back focussed and confident. Watford was playing differently as if he was experimenting with straight line speed blast of which he wasn't able to handle well. Out of control. He usually plays with a go/stop under control motion which he did well with last year.
Roy & Dame played 4 years of college which is a lot more beneficial than jumping from HS to the pro's.
Sharpe will be ok, I did like the way he responded with confidence with his turn around base line jumper.

    I'm sorry...but that is a dumb question.

absolutely people expect a #7 pick to get on the court in his first "few seasons"

The injury was really unfortunate because right before it the guy showed a spark. Before the injury he had been tanative, playing in his first organized basketball game in like a year and a half... I don't think that's cause for alarm. In fact I don't think 5 minutes in any game is enough to draw conclusions from and I definitely don't think the first 5 minutes from the first summer league game should have anyone drawing conclusions... accept @AldoTrapani of course who is more convinced he's a bust because he doesn't talk loud enough.

I really liked Dame challenging Sharpe.

This is more of what he needs, not more coddling.

every year, before summer league, everybody tells everybody else that summer league games mean nothing and you can't reach any conclusions from them. Then, during the first summer league game, many of those everybody's reach conclusions

I didn't even see it as aggressive as "challenging" him, I saw it as advice from one top 10 draft pick to another and it was very encouraging advice but as Dame always is very real. I don't think he's getting many things other than this from his head coach and the on court leader of the team. So I don't know what coddling you're talking about.

Try watching Wimbledon. The cameras show #wags after every play.

Yeh, I think he just needs to calm down and he'll be fine.

That's a bit of a stretch to say he was challenging him.

perhaps coddling was the wrong term. but his handlers and UK it appears didn't ever make him uncomfortable. This was the case even in HS, when he simply changed schools (twice) when the going got tough.

but dame's comments appeared to me as very pointed remarks on what Sharpe's mindset needs to be.

unless there's an actual injury, i really hope the team also forces him to play.

I do too, but it makes it less interesting when not even one Blazer is having an above par game. OK, I'll edit that. Sounds like Walker did pretty good, I missed the fourth quarter, I have to get up at 6 every morning.
