From what I'm reading, it sounds like you're both right. They looked into some names like Prince and Ainge. Got a no from both of them. Never brought in anyone for an official interview. So it wasn't a full blown search but they did check with Prince and others before making the final decision. I will say, from my time in the public eye, I was surprised at how the press was wrong about 90% time when writing about what happened behind the scenes at "Bones." I was also around the Broadway musical THE PRODUCERS when it was coming together and I know for a fact that a certain person (not Mel Brooks) wrote a song for the show even though Mel was given sole credit for doing so. Finally, people think Google is all knowing. An example, someone types "I googled so and so's net worth (which took them to a bullshit site) and it's.." whatever. The number on the internet for ME is COMPLETELY wrong. But I see people on the internet referring to figures from that site all the time and treat it as fact.
Bullshit. You attacked riverman's character when you suggested he doesn't care about women or POCs getting job interviews. It is off-topic to do that.
Not opening up interviews prevents women and POC from having at least a shot at the job. If you support the team giving the job away without due process, you clearly don’t value diversity among general managers.
Who cares what strangers think of you Kinger. As soon as I stopped caring what people thought of me I blossomed. And I’m not some big wig celebrity like you. I’m just a rando poster on S2. If you want to get back in the limelight you can get on like one of those VH1 washed up celebrity shows. I think they got like a Rehab one and fit club one and maybe even a Makeover one.
I don't think it's bad business to strike a deal before shutting them down last season, which is what many here suspected. It sends a message to the league: we take care of our players. We made our offer to Simons quickly and he took it quickly which shows he cares about playing here. Remember- this goes two ways. SIMONS could've chosen to play the field. He could've said "I'll consider it but let me check around." He didn't do that because he likes Portland and felt he was being paid fairly. Next year or the year after, we will feel VERY lucky to only be paying him 25million. I think it was a good deal. Hopefully, other players see that our team takes care of you if you come work here.
That's ridiculous. Riverman should be able to support the hiring of Joe and have a discussion here without being called a racist or sexist. At no point did he say he doesn't believe women or POCs deserve jobs in the NBA.
Oh geez. Why so sensitive? well I guess Vh1 celebrity roast is out of the picture. Oh wait that Comedy Central nevermind..
I didn't say I care what strangers think of me. I was talking about people believing what they read on the internet which in my experience is rarely true. I'm happy right now, directing shows in the PNW before traveling back to NYC in the fall.
Show me where I said either of those words. Racist or sexist. I said that supporting a hire that does not go through a conventional hiring process takes away an opportunity for women and POC to interview for the job, and if you don’t agree then clearly it’s not something that you care very much about. There’s a reason why the NFL has the Rooney rule.
"NateBishop is homophobic and anti-trans. At no point in this thread, did he say he thought people from the LGBTQ+ community should've been given an interview for the GM job." See how that works, Nate? It's exactly what you did to Riverman.
Nah you’re just expanding on my point. By not opening up the hiring process they didn’t give gay or trans people an opportunity to interview for the job. I’m glad you agree with me. Thanks for bringing that up Eric.
No problem with what is in BOLD here. And what you say after that is an assumption. But that's not at all what you did to riverman. You attacked his character and said he doesn't care about women or POCs getting opportunities. That is where you went too far. Scroll back and read what you wrote. And then apologize.
Nope. You only care about women and POC. You dismissed LGBTQ+ people by not mentioning them at all in your argument. Get it now? That's what you did to Riverman. You put words in his mouth. It was uncalled for.
I said he didn’t value it. That’s a different word than care. Nah, not gonna apologize. The job should have been opened up and they should have held interviews.
You said CARE. You have no idea what he values. Or cares about. If you asked him, I'm sure he'd love all sorts of people to get jobs in the NBA. He had specific points to make but they weren't enough for you completely judge his character. You went too far. You were wrong. I'll let it go after this post.
