Trump White House lawyer Pat Cipollone is grilled by January 6 committee for EIGHT HOURS: Lawmaker says attorney did not plead the Fifth Amendment OR contradict other witnesses including Cassidy Hutchinson
    • Trump's former White House attorney testified before the committee all day
    • Panel member Rep. Zoe Lofgren said it was 'grueling' but 'worthwhile'
    • She said the committee even 'gained some additional insight' into Trump and his allies' actions on January 6
    • Cipollone had previously resisted getting deposed, citing privilege issues
    • His decision follows calls by Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) for him to appear
    • It follows former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson's testimony that Cipollone pressed her to keep Trump away from the Capitol on Jan. 6
    • He previously sat down with the January 6 committee in an informal capacity

Actually, I think that showing that the white house council disagreed with the president's response is a tool to remove the idea that it was a proper executive requirement to proceed with the baseless argument. It basically blocks Trump from claiming there was reasonable doubt - and blocks a potential defense if he is charged.

Today they pointed the responsibility directly at Trump and his partners in crime on historical record. He's ground zero refusing his own legal counsel and surrounding himself with bad advise that agreed with his lie. Also protected the tesitimony of Hutchinson .

Did Trump's butt also talk to the person?
    Don't answer that.
I must be tired. I saw Stones encrypted and wondered for a second if it was a Rolling Stones song.

BREAKING NEWS: Secret Service DELETED texts from Jan 5 and Jan 6, Homeland Security’s Inspector General reveals amid its internal probe
    • The DHS watchdog sent a letter to the Homeland Security committees in the House and the Senate on Wednesday
    • 'Many' text messages between the US Secret Service were deleted after the watchdog made a request for electronic communications, the letter states
    • The Homeland Security Inspector General requested them as part of his office's investigation into the January 6 attack on the US Capitol
    • DHS employees refused to hand over documents until they were reviewed by the department's lawyers, the inspector general's office said

'Many' US Secret Service text messages written between January 5 and January 6 last year have been deleted, the Homeland Security Inspector General said in a stunning letter on Thursday.

The messages were allegedly erased after the inspector general's office asked the law enforcement office for electronic communications as part of its probe into the US Capitol attack.

The letter, first obtained by CNN, is addressed to the top members of the House and Senate Homeland Security Committees.

It states that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told its watchdog the messages were deleted 'as part of a device-replacement program.'

The inspector general also accuses DHS employees of stonewalling requests for information until they were reviewed by the department's lawyers.

'This review led to weeks-long delays in [the inspector general's office] obtaining records and created confusion over whether all records had been produced,' the letter states.

Inspector General Joseph Cuffari wrote that the purpose of his letter was to offer lawmakers a briefing on the 'access issues.'

'Sir, you need to take your hand off the steering wheel. We're going back to the West Wing, we're not going to the Capitol,' Hutchinson was told Secret Service agent Robert Engel said.

'Mr. Trump then used his free hand to lunge towards Bobby Engel,' Hutchinson recalled.

Ornato 'motioned toward his clavicle,' she added, as a sign the president went for his security detail's throat.

Multiple people have said Ornato disputes Hutchinson's account, though he's yet to do so publicly under oath.

Lawmakers on the committee have since confirmed that they have witnesses corroborating the senior White House aide's testimony, though no specifics have been made available thus far.

A top Secret Service official allegedly involved in the attempt to spirit away Pence on January 6 remains in a leadership position at the agency. Tony Ornato, a Secret Service agent whom Trump made the unprecedented decision to appoint as his deputy White House Chief of Staff, reportedly informed Pence’s national security advisor, Keith Kellogg, on January 6 that agents would relocate the Vice President to Joint Base Andrews. “You can’t do that, Tony,” Kellogg reportedly told Ornato. “Leave him where he’s at. He’s got a job to do. I know you guys too well. You’ll fly him to Alaska if you have a chance. Don’t do it.”

    ...

Iowa Sen. Charles E. Grassley, the Senate president pro tempore, says he and not Vice President Mike Pence will preside over the certification of Electoral College votes, since "we don't expect him to be there."

    ...

“Well, first of all, I will be — if the Vice President isn’t there and we don’t expect him to be there, I will be presiding over the Senate,” according to a transcript of his remarks sent by a spokesperson.

Grassley serves as the president pro tempore of the Senate and will preside over any portion of the debate that Pence does not attend.

Washington DC cop 'CORROBORATES to January 6 committee' former Trump aide Cassidy Hutchinson's explosive account of ex-president's fracas with Secret Service driver
    • The 25-year-old former assistant to Donald Trump's final White House chief of staff testified that the ex-president 'lunged' at his security detail
    • He was allegedly furious that they refused to take him to the US Capitol
    • Trump had just finished encouraging his supporters to march there in a bid to pressure lawmakers who were certifying Joe Biden's electoral victory
    • The Secret Service is also in hot water for being accused of deleting 'many' text messages dating January 5 and January 6 by a Homeland Security watchdog
A police officer who was in the presidential motorcade on January 6 has confirmed that Donald Trump had a heated standoff with Secret Service as his supporters marched toward the US Capitol, a report suggested on Thursday evening.

A source familiar with the matter didn't name the officer to CNN but said they worked for the Washington, DC Metro police force.

The person was reportedly able to corroborate one of the more damning points presented by the House select committee investigating January 6 so far in its series of eight hearings this summer.

It was the testimony of 25-year-old Cassidy Hutchinson, who was the assistant to Trump's final chief of staff, Mark Meadows.

It's not immediately clear whether the officer corroborated some or all of Hutchinson's explosive account.

The former aide had described a chaotic scene in which Trump physically tried to assert command over the vehicle he was being driven in, shouting at Secret Service agents: 'I'm the effing president, take me to the Capitol now.'

Hutchinson had testified earlier that he knew some of the supporters who came to see him at the Stop The Steal rally on the White House Ellipse that day were armed before he walked on stage.

Trump's alleged heated confrontation with security took place after he egged the crowd to march on to the US Capitol, where lawmakers and then-Vice President Mike Pence were certifying President Joe Biden's electoral victory.

When agents protested against following the mob, Hutchinson said she was told by Former Deputy Chief of Staff Tony Ornato that Trump 'lunged' for the steering wheel - and then for a Secret Service agent.

Both Ornato and Engel have reportedly denied Hutchinson's account, as as Trump.
