Sources have told FOXSports.com that after much speculation and deliberation, the Lions have fired head coach Steve Mariucci. The same sources said they believe defensive coordinator D.Jauron would be the team's interim head coach, but that has not yet been confirmed. It was widely reported on Friday that Mariucci's days in Detroit were numbered, but he managed to last the weekend. The last straw for Lions management apparently was Detroit's embarrassing 27-7 loss to Atlanta on Thanksgiving Day. Playing before a national television audience, the Falcons took a 27-0 lead into the fourth quarter and were able to sit starting quarterback Michael Vick. This was supposed to be the season Mariucci got the Lions back on track. Quarterback Joey Harrington was entering his fourth season in the league and the team was loaded with talent at the skill positions. But after sharing the NFC North lead at 3-3, the Lions have dropped four of their last five games to fall out of the postseason hunt for the sixth straight season. In his two-plus years in Detroit, Mariucci had a 15-28 record ? a far cry from the 60-43 mark he had during six seasons in San Francisco. Mariucci has two more seasons left on a five-year, $25-million contract signed when he was hired in 2003.http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2239336
Not really a suprise, he should have turned this team around a long time ago. They need a real disclipinarian like Tom Coughlin(but hes not going anywhere) in Detroit.
The Loins suck period. It's as simple as that. They'll screw 2006 if they pick another 1st-round reciver.
Their team are alright, but it is the coaching that is making this team horrible. They better hope they find a good head coach and some assistant coaches that will win some ball games.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2239336I don't think this is going to affect anything. They have all that talent and they had a pretty good coach, now he's gone. They need to fire Matt Millin. That would help the team much more.
Wow, that sucks for Mariucci, I honestly like the guy I remember hearing on the Thanksgiving game that he was SAFE with his job, but if he didn't bring the record up a couple wins within the next couple seasons he would be fired, apparently they were wrong about that.
I kinda expected it, just not a very good team for the last 3 years....And I agree, this is just another ploy by Matt Millin for him to keep his job longer. If he waited until after the season the owner would be firing both of them, but now that hes doing something he can keep his job for another year....what a joke.
The team has good players that can be in the playoffs, but, the coaching led this team to the ground. Let's see how D*** Jauron does.
