    • Rushdie’s London-based son Zafar, 42, is aware of the incident and his father has been seen being transported to an ambulance after the attack

Hope he's OK.....with a life filled with death threats I'd think he'd have long ago been in a witness protection program or something. ..he's an amazing writer...probably not the best choice to do the lecture circuit to promote his new book about his pseudonym while he was hiding.

One of the only authors I have attended an in person book reading for. Not my favorite author of all time or anything, but it seemed like too momentous an occasion to miss. Hopefully he pulls through. This world could use a little bit of his brand of truth/magical realism.

This is a horrible thing to have happen...far cry from Will Smith Slapping Chris Rock on stage but shows just how vulnerable people are at public speaking events. I hope he recovers as well as possible but this was vicious blood lust.

The end result of book banning. If the book is so evil no one may be allowed to read it, by extension the writer is evil.
A poster here said in so many words some books should be banned.

Just more evidence that religion is past its useful life here on planet Earth.

I can’t remember the last time I had Salmon. I don’t really like fish unless it is cod or halibut, so I’m reluctant to ever buy or eat it.

Satanic Verses was published about the same time as Brief History of Time. Some columnist wrote that both were best sellers but a lot of purchasers never actually read them.

    I read both.

I definitely went through a Magical Realism phase in my early 20s. Read a bunch of Rushdie, Marquez, etc.

I think my favorite of Rushdie's is The Ground Beneath Her Feet, which is a variation on the Orpheus/Eurydice story. Lots of rock and roll, angels, and prophecy.

Midnight's Children is also a great read, telling the story of India separating into 2 nations through the lens of children growing up in that era.

Was this a terrorist act or a religious wacko doing his own thing?
