What is the best decade? I'm going with the 90s. Portland at its peak. Macheezmo Mouse. UpFrontFX. Quest. Street kids. All that jazz. https://www.oregonlive.com/history/2017/03/portland_in_the_1990s_dirty_we.html
Best decade hasn't happened yet. I think decades should be broken down by 5's....55-65, 65-75, 75-85, 85-95, 95-2005, etc..........85-95 was a great stretch in my life....I prefer the decades before cell phones and social media were governing the planet.
I like the 2's, especially for measuring a decade of music: 1952-1961 is a musical decade, 1962-1971, 1972-1981, 1982-1991, 1992-2001... etc
That's why the 2000's are a perfect blend. You got the Nokia brick phones with the game snake that you couldn't use the internet on. Smart phones weren't really that prevalent and widely used until the 10's.
1995-2005 Since 1995 has been the best time in world history. Ample resources, incredibly lowe inflation, safest and cheapest shipping and improved quality of life. It has literally been the best time in world history because the soviet union was disassembled and their wealth was sold off at pennies on the dollar. China was gooseing their economy to make everything dirt cheap, and the Baby Boomers (world wide) were such a large and eager to work demographic that they flattened the cost of labor while still spending incredibly amounts of money. There were no recessions between 95 and 2005, so I think that would be the best 10 years. But really from mid-90s to 2019 was the best stretch the world has ever had, and almost certainly the best it will be in our lifetimes. The Soviet Union has been completely sold off, China is done as an economic hub, and the average boomer is retiring this year, and moving their money out of the economy into far safer investments. We now have to make up for decades of lost inflation, so it's going to be very high inflation for a while. And nearly every country is hitting a huge population bomb or already has. We will not have enough labor to maintain. The US is better off than nearly everybody else thanks to the millennials. But tough times ahead for the next 15-25 years unless some crazy technology comes along to save us.
It's the 90s and it's not even close. The last decade before cell phones and internet took over our lives completely.
Idk. 90s didn't really have cell phones or internet that was any good. I agree that at some point it took over our lives in a bad way. But to basically go back to the times without having good internet or cell phones is a bit much.
I was very young but the 80’s were great. Of course maybe as an adult it wasn’t. Then 90’s. God it sucks that my kids won’t have that decade to look back on in their youth.
I remember the 80s fondly as well... But there was still quite a bit of racism. It really dropped off in the 90s.
You seem to be a big fan of Peter Zeihan's geopolitical analysis and prognostications, but I don't remember ever seeing any posts from you about him. Peter has a new book to promote, so I'm sure he would appreciate it, if you gave him a mention.
