Kirby just has elite level command. 31/35 pitches are strikes so far set a MLb record 24 straight strikes before throwing a ball to start the game. dude is unreal
I’m not mad at it. We got an ace and in the playoffs pitching is more important IMO but I do wish we had gotten a bat at the deadline as well. I’m expecting a good off-season to improve the offense as the rotation is set and have the best bullpen in baseball
Went to both last nights game and today. Both were good fast games. Neither one lasted more then three games. Kirby was pretty impressive the first couple innings not throwing balls. We were discussing how crazy it was that we were in the third inning and he had only thrown strikes. Not a fan of either team, just enjoyed a couple games. Was with two Mariners fans and two Nat's fans.
mariners are crapping the bed. Have to win the easy ones. I don't know what the post-season chances are.
About 4 games ago we were at 91.1%. so we have a good shot of making it, but not with putrid performances like this.
I have to relate it back to when I was 5 years old and my dad's friend told me the Griffey was traded. I was absolutely DISTRAUGHT. 1993. That guy tricked me really good. Griffey was still with the M's. I feel the opposite right now. I can't wait to watch Julio put up numbers over the next few years.
I like this new trend by MLB teams of locking up their young talent instead of the years of arbitration that used to happen. My Braves have been doing it a ton lately, with great success.
This contract is a fucking steal. It has escalators based on performance so as it sits right now, if I read it right, is 8/200. For his generational talent upside still to come that's a lock. And if he realizes it (mvp conditions) it bumps up to $470 mil over 14. Which in 7 years will be a steal anyway (Ohtani and Soto set to make half a billion guaranteed in a couple years)... This is the nature of generational type player contracts. Lock em up with performance based incentives and leave yourself room to build around them during their prime (i.e. the next 8 years, just like the contract) it's smart as hell. Now Seattle has to get him some fucking help on the offensive side.
Couldn't be happier with the terms, escalations, etc. Of the deal. Still allows for Julio to earn another $170 mil! Keep em motivated! Love it all around. An actual smart deal.
The offense is just impotent overall. Pathetic. Everyone going 0-2 then striking out a few pitches later. Pathetic. Terrible hitting team. Not likely to win a post season series with this roster. Still have to make some personnel changes..
