I said it before but .275 is the new .300 lol. A lot of teams suck at hitting lol

I've never been happier that they are getting rid of that and the runner at 2nd in extra innings next year.

Are they really though? I mean, if a team can't have the second baseman move over, what's to prevent them from having the centerfielder play really shallow, right move over to center, and 2nd play in right. Basically accomplishes the same goal, but still within the framework of the new rule.

This guy might get me back into baseball again.
And yes this is how most all contracts should be in my opinion. Largely(like half) incentive based. Teams need to protect themselves as well. And it removes most all of the “got the money, now ride the wave” types too.
This could get the Mariners in contention if they build around this guy right, and this contract makes it much easier to do so. Pitching is already there. A couple more moves is all it might take.

yeah there used to be a good number of hitters who hit over .300

Now you look around the league and the list is very small

If I read it right, you need to have two fielders on either side of 2nd base and on the dirt in front of the outfield. You can still be on the infield grass (corners in, etc). So bringing an outfielder in close would only be for strategic times, I.E. end of game, runner at 3rd tie game.

Yeah I'm already a pretty big fan of the Mariners but this is the first time in my adult life where I've been excited about a single player on the team. I guess Felix too but really, an everyday player. And our teams sucked when Felix was in his prime so lol.

Yeah France isn't the answer. He had an all star first half but I've still never fully trusted his bat. There's really no true consistent hitters other than Julio. There's like an 85% chance we make the playoffs this year so yay but this hitting has to be addressed cause our pitching is filthy. The only starter i don't like is Marco. Gilbert will figure it out, and Kirby is just fucking gnarly lol. Ray, Castillo, and Kirby as our top 3, yes please.

And perhaps with the elimination of the shift it'll make that happen and take this league away from the boom or bust.

seattle as a team is one of the worst offensively. There are a few teams worse off battng but they have awful records.

It sort of makes sense though, all of our hitters are either A) High K, or HR. B) Walk a lot (Good thing), or C) Had a slow start (See Raleigh (.084 in April), Julio (sub .200 in april, and France (.120 in August) So all our big hitters have had mega slumps at one point. And we strike out. A lot. lol.

I feel like Raleigh is either going to hit a bomb or strikeout.

Haggerty might be my favorite hitter. Always fun at the plate.

IIRC he actually has a good OBP and can play gap to gap. That's just off memory I'd nerd to look at the stats

Being a Mariners fan sucks man. It'll be better if we win tomorrow but we just wasted our ace.... Fml. We had a chance to take the first wild card spot by ourselves tonight. Boooo.

Interesting to see the Mariners right around 20th in all the major hitting categories, they definitely don't have much in the lineup that strikes fear in the opposing teams. That said, pitching and defense are what win in the playoffs, with timely hits!
