In Russia that won't keep you out of jail...you can go to jail just for running for office in Russia which isn't against the law. You can go to jail for protesting a war which also isn't against the law.
Or bringing banned drugs into the country, which is what Griner did. You can come up with all the hypotheticals in the world. But she broke their laws and was punished.
that was pages ago dude..we were talking about current WNBA players going to Russia to play...not Griner with her hash oil. Fact is you shouldn't trust the "laws" in Russia to protect you or your civil rights period..
I went to middle school with a girl with the last name of Greiner...or Griener...I dont remember it's closer to 35 years ago than I want to admit....whats that go to do with this? Nothing. Just felt like sharing.
The average WNBA player makes 102k a season. We are really going to say that's not a 'fair' wage? What would be fair to you?
A wage that wouldn't make them feel compelled to take risks like playing in Russia would be a good start. $120k annually isn't much money for such a short career. I would say $1 million average salary would be good. With $500k minimum.
If you want them to make more money, go to games, buy the merch, watch on TV and get friends/family to do so. 120k annually to play a game, plus whatever other endorsements they can make, seems like a pretty nice living to many, even if it's only for a short time coming right out of college when many people are struggling to even make ends meet.
That’s amounts to roughly $3,000 per game. Playing overseas with such a short season seems to make a lot of sense.
It's not like they don't have the ability to make money doing something else after their basketball days have ended...
I do, as do my kids when they aren't busy with their own sport. Unfortunately there is no team in Oregon. The NBA should be subsidizing a higher salary IMO. They wouldn't even notice it.
Yeah, it's a great arrangement if everybody wants our great players playing over seas and at risk because they aren't paid well enough here in the US. Land of opportunity FTW
I make just under 100k salary and I do not get to play a sport having fun while doing it. can i get a subsidy as well please?
This post is where I hate the blanket "like" button ... I love the first sentence of you post and disagree 100% with the second sentence!
