Listen, Dame would only be a what....2 time allstar if it weren't for injuries to players ahead of him in vote count... Remember. I just don't feel popularity contests should have a factor in judging players. It's no different than allowing the nut jobs that roam this place have a say.

Simply amazing. People are just talking about him passing Kareem. Didn't even realize this.

You don't think the coaches vote that determines most of the all star selections is something more than a popularity contest?

People keep bringing this up.....but how long has this been in effect/affect? 5 seasons? What about ALLLLL the seasons where it was simply nut job fans in their moms basements pointing on keyboards? For decades it decided a players value. Now I see players from today being compared to players from the 80s and people use the number of all star game appearances as if it's some significant stat.
Like championship rings.... Stacey King vs Karl Malone. Will Perdue vs Barkley.
If the right person isn't using these accomplishments correctly, it's an absolute mess.

I guess you have to wonder:

    Ja Morant
    Luca Doncic
    Anthony Edwards
    Stephen Curry
    Klay Thompson
    Devin Booker
    Chis Paul
    Dejounte Murray
    Damian Lillard

CJ would have to beat out 5 of those guys at the same time he held off young guys like Jamal Murray, De'Aaron Fox, SGA, and Jordan Poole

    seems pretty unlikely

The coaches have always selected the reserves. The fan vote has only ever affected the starters.

My question to you who is dismissing the value of all-star selections due to fan voting: how many times has a player who didn't deserve an all-star nod been voted a starter by the fans? Can you come up with a single time?

Misleading tweet… I was wondering where CP3 was. Ahead of both Magic and LeBron.

Stockton all time leader at almost 16k is insane! 16k assists!!! Dude legit averaged 10.5 a game. Must have been great to have the mailman.

You're operating with bad info. Coaches have picked the reserves since 1961. For a little while in the 80's through some time in the 90's only the head coach of the two all star teams picked the reserves but that was only for like 15 seasons and then they went back to a consensus of all head coaches. Fans have never picked the reserves. The NBA started allowing fans to pick the starters in 1974-75 but gave the players and media each 25% of the vote for starters in 2016-17. Again, to be clear the fans have never had any say in the all star reserves and have rarely picked a starter that wouldn't have made the team.

Was just looking through the voting, in 16-17, Zaza pachulia was the #2 vote getter for west front court. Lol

Interesting argument. My question would be--if Wiggins didn't deserve to be an all-star last year, who in the West should have gone in ahead of him?

Looking at the voting, the number 4 frontcourt player behind Wiggins was Draymond, and he got in as well, as did the number 6 & 7 vote getters Gobert and KAT. The highest-voted front-court player who was snubbed and maybe deserved the all-star spot that Wiggins got was Paul George. The players also voted Wiggins ahead of George (46 to 36), as did the media (4 to 3). So none of the 3 voting elements agreed with your claim that Wiggins wasn't one of the 6 most-deserving western-conference front-court all-star selections (the minimum allowed number).

That's the year they started letting players' votes count for 25% and media votes to count for another 25% to prevent Zaza from starting. He didn't even make the team. You're going to be hard pressed to find an instance where a starter made it in that wouldn't have been a reserve that the coaches would have picked anyway. The one time it almost happened (that you just pointed out) the NBA took power away from the fans to avoid what @THE HCP is saying every all star selection is, a mismanaged popularity contest... which just isn't the case.

Who is your surprise team this year? I don’t know if the magic will actually make the playoffs but I think that Paolo will be good enough to maybe have them be considered a surprise team this year. How many did they win last year? +10-15 this year?

Which team will have the greatest win improvement over last season?

If you think about it, the magic have to be the most likely to do that, right? Matter of fact portland is probably their biggest competition in that regard.

Lakers, Blazers, Magic 1 of those 3

Twolves still won 46 games last season.

Consider the source. He's the biggest Nurk-jock-rider in this place, and it's not even close.
