linkRams have eyes on RiveraDefensive coordinator to interview this week for head-coaching jobBy John Mullin and K.C. JohnsonTribune staff reporterJanuary 3, 2006, 9:50 PM CSTBears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera will interview this week for the St. Louis Rams' coaching job.Rams President John Shaw and Jay Zygmunt, the president of football operations, are due in Chicago at the end of this week, probably Friday. General manager Charley Armey will not attend. Teams can interview Rivera during the Bears' bye week, but league rules bar them from performing follow-up interviews or offering him jobs until the Bears' playoff run ends.Indications out of New Orleans in the wake of Jim Haslett's firing are that Rivera isn't on the Saints' short list. Rivera also hasn't been contacted by Minnesota, which fired Mike Tice on Sunday after the Vikings beat the Bears.Rivera consistently has stated his desire to become a head coach but also has maintained his primary focus is helping the Bears win a Super Bowl. Coach Lovie Smith, who knows Rams personnel well from his days as defensive coordinator there, hopes to help Rivera land a head-coaching job.

I really hope the Rams sign Rivera. Our defense sucks and we could use a defensive coordinator as the head coach.

But after a few years of good drafting and signing decent FA's the Rams D could become good....

I just find it weird that you guys had Lovie Smith as your DC...lost him to the Bears to be their HC.Then they have Ron Rivera as their DC, and they could lose him to the Rams to be thier HC. [IMG] [IMG]

I really think the Rams should have fired Martz and signed Lovie as HC a couple of years ago. I really liked him and was sad to see him go.
