Kind of wish we had picked up Christian Wood, who Dallas got for 26th pick in 2022 draft. He seems to be happy with them in a backup role, Scored 25 points in 24 minutes. could have been backup C and PF for us.
We deal with it. He has been 'hit or miss' for years. As he gets older, and just got paid, it wasn't going to suddenly get better. In fact, history tells us, it is well likely to get worse.
I think load management is good for Nurk....we want him healthy for the playoffs....if he plays 22 minutes a game and more when we play bigger teams...pace him and keep him for when the game slows down in the playoffs and you need him to anchor that defense. One game in I'm not freaking out about Nurk....guys are still deferring to each other early on and the lack of ISO ball is new to all our returning vets. It has to click and when it doesn't I still think....Nurk will look better than last night. Last night the team carried the scoring load....Nurk, Dame and Ant didn't have to for a change.
Wow, that’s wild… And the pacers lost their home opener by 7 points. Would have potentially been a different game with Turner out there. Still doesn’t change my desire to trade for him.
Nurk is who he is. Adjust your expectations if you think he's gonna be an all star. He will have nights when he misses shots he rushes; he will have others when he makes everything. And he's not overpaid. He's getting paid what an average center gets paid. Someone had this thought that I really liked, but we can potentially move him and Hart in January for DeAndre Ayton. I would explore that possibility. Love J Hart but it doesn't make sense to extend him longterm with Sharpe earning rotational minutes and GP2 already locked in.
And if you go by this year's salaries: Nurk - 93rd highest paid Ant - 57th highest paid Grant - 62nd highest paid Dame- 6th highest paid. This continued notion that Nurk is overpaid is really frustrating to read over and over again. It's like people don't realize the MLE is close to 12 mil/yr these days and the cap spike is only going to make all of these contracts seem more reasonable in a few years.
I like Grant a lot but I am not ready to say he can "create offense". He can shoot the 3ball and he can cut and finish well (and make his free throws) but I do not want Grant to think he is a facilitator. He is average for a PF at putting the ball on the floor. Although he is way better at it than the other PF starters we have had at that position. (I cringed when Amino would try)
against a slow big he should be fine. if the matchup aint there he should sit some, like last night. No he wont be an all star but it is what it is.
Agreed, we need two types of centers because they will need his size against some. He looked good finishing at the end of last year. He just misses so many easy shots at the rim. As I said last night he just needs to not force things, and not fall to the floor every time he drives. That just can't possibly help with his accuracy. If he made 3 of those 4 drives where he fell to the ground, he would have been 6-9. I will take that. (and one less moving screen a night)
I’d rather trade Hart for a backup C and a 1st than to trade Hart along with 1sts for Ayton if I’m being honest. Like you said, Nurk is who he is, and I’m fine with that. I also don’t think there are many C’s that would be considered a major upgrade from Nurk. Turner isn’t an upgrade imo, Ayton makes $30+m/yr, both would require 1sts. I would see how Kel’el Ware or Dereck Lively play throughout the season and find a way to draft one of them in the next draft and get a backup C.
Tell that to the people on here freaking out over one good game by Sharpe. I'm going to wait until it becomes a pattern.
