They don't work. Just wear a jacket and a hat. Your legs are getting wet with or without the umbrella.

Yeah, I have two gore-tex hats, a North face baseball one and the Outdoor Research "Seattle" hat. OR hat is kinda goofy but the North Face works great.

Also have a waxed canvas Filson hat I leave at parents house in Oregon.

I do want to buy a fancy Umbrella from London, but I don't know when I'd use it. It hardly ever rains in LA. I wouldn't use it in Oregon because of loss of street cred.

All I ever need is a mt hardwear/Columbia jacket with a hood.

People from Beaverton don't have that to lose.

I don’t carry umbrellas in Oregon, but I do In Hilo (though I’ve only used maybe twice).

Where do you all stand on the amendment to change Portland's form of government?

I was all-in until I realized that the charter commission bit off way too much. I am reluctantly going to vote no and hope that Mingus Maps really puts through legit proposal next spring.

    You?

Never understood why you'd use an umbrella, decent coat with a hood works just as well, if not better. Living in South Texas for 1/4 of my life, I think I've used an umbrella more here to block out the sun than I have in the PNW the other 3/4's of my life to protect from the rain.

$17k per year to house them. That's a HUGE savings over allowing them to remain homeless or relying on shelters.

Then you can have social workers checking in on them at a known location and getting them the help they need. They have a mailing address and shower so they can get jobs. And once they are working you can progressively begin charging them a portion of the rent... If they make enough they may be able to cover all of the rent.

    Simply needs funding...

No thanks. Sitting in a downpour watching your kids play sports hours on end…. You think a “coat with a hood” does the trick? Not in my neighborhood FAMS.

Amen, brother. Went to watch one of my youth group kids' soccer games this past Saturday; my wife and I were very content under our giant umbrella, and had no qualms about using it, even (gasp!) in Oregon.
