Completely different situation than during the commute. Walking with an umbrella in Portland makes no sense.

Sitting in the rain watching soccer? Absolutely. A tent would be good ..

Because an umbrella can be left at a front door or shaken out to entering an indoor facility.
Im not an umbrella man but before i had covered parking for blazer games i used my blazer umbrella. Who wants to sit inside an arena with wet clothes for 2.5 hours?

Again. Not an umbrella man but i see situations where they work.

Your situation, now I have to deal with a wet umbrella either at my feet or on my lap while watching the game, it doesn't really make a difference to me if that's an umbrella or a jacket.

I understand it has some uses, but day to day walking to from home/car/office I just never got it. If you're sitting out in a monson watching youth soccer (talk about the 4th ring of hell) than by all means!

pretty easy to shake an umbrella out to the point it isn't dripping at all. Like five seconds.

Umbrellas on a city sidewalk are intrusive and annoying. Why should others have to get out of the way of someone taking up most of a sidewalk??? Hats and rain gear are good enough. Umbrellas are for stationary activities.

There is enough money to pay rent for each and every homeless person in the Portland Metro Area

There are 5228 homeless in the Portland Metro Area.

The 1% tax we voted in raises between $150 and $250 million per year.

At $17k per person that's only $88 million to house every single homeless person. Leaving enough left over to pay for whatever treatment they require.

Get these people off of the streets and into homes.

The People have done their part in funding the solution. Only a failure in leadership can prevent the Portland Metro Area from getting our clean streets and parks back now.

Luckily, a failure like that would never happen!

OK, so the city council (sans Joanne Hardesty, natch) has finally voted to ban street camping.

What the the fuck took so long? Why did they wait three years, and why did they finally do this now?

    Truly, I am perplexed.

I understand his concern about fire but throwing water on her is a bunch of crap.
