Disclaimer: I'm an Oregon Ducks fan through and through and definitely rooted for them in the opening season blowout to Georgia.) Having lived in Atlanta for 12 years, I became a pretty big Georgia Bulldogs fan. Have always rooted for them unless playing the Ducks. Now, living in Nashville, I've also become somewhat of a Tennessee Vols fan, as well. That makes today's game interesting. I've ALWAYS hated Alabama. To me, Alabama is the University of Washington of the SEC. Tennessee has already beaten Alabama this season. I highly doubt they'd do it again in an SEC Championship game. Tennessee and Georgia are in the same division. Hence, today's winner would most likely play Alabama in the SEC Championship. From a technical standpoint, I'll probably root for Georgia. If they beat Tennessee today, then beat Alabama in the SEC Championship. that makes The Crimson Tide a two-loss team and Tennessee would most likely remain ahead of them, assuming they win out. If Tennessee wins today, then they would most likely face Alabama in the SEC Championship, and (again) I doubt they beat Alabama twice in one season. It's been many years since #1 faced #2 in the regular season. Should be a great game!!
I was born in Atlanta and my father was born and raised in Alabama, therefor my allegiance is to those two schools unless they play my Beavers.
I've said this many times in here. I still love a lot of Southern food. I love how you can be driving in the country and a farmer sitting on his front porch maybe a thousand feet or more away from the road will wave to you as you drive by. Of course it helps if you are White. We had family get togethers that were wondrous. Iced tea, fried chicken, potato salad, turnip greens, watermelon and maybe some chocolate cake. My aunt was a baby sitter for Margaret Mitchell. She got invited to the opening of Gone With the Wind with Clark Gable, Vivian Leigh, etc. After the movie she got invited to a party with the cast. She took her brother, my uncle, with her. That was my aunt Olive and Uncle Clarence. They had two sisters, my mom and my aunt Carolyn who were denied by my grandfather and had to go live and grow up with my adopted grandmother in Caldwell, Washington near Canada and Idaho even though my aunt Carolyn was the spitting image of my aunt Olive. There's a lot that my father and I loved about the South but ignorance, stubbornness and racial prejudice are not among them. My father wanted me to get into engineering at Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech. and Emory were the only two schools that my dad and I considered enlightened. I do have a cousin who graduated with a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alabama. She married a Chinese man also with a University of Alabama PhD in Chemical Engineering and they both teach at Princeton. You'd think that her husband would have raised a lot of eyebrows considering that my cousin is blonde but no, he has been welcomed into the family. I love ham and beans with turnip greens, cornbread and buttermilk. I also love biscuits and sausage gravy for breakfast.
My Alabama grandmother made it with lard. Add coffee as the liquid and you have yourself red eye gravy. We make our sausage gravy with milk and flour which some people call white gravy.
Theres a part of me that wishes I lived in the south because: A.) I’d be the smartest person who lived in my neighborhood by a good mile B.) everything is much cheaper down south and money goes a long ways
