http://www.twincities.com/mld/pioneerpress...ts/13666979.htmVikings may trade CulpepperBY CHARLEY WALTERS (Pioneer Press) It now seems that the Vikings will trade troubled quarterback Daunte Culpepper to the highest bidder, which could be Oakland or Baltimore, in early March. The Raiders have the No. 6 pick and the Ravens No. 13 in April's draft. Arizona and Miami also could be in the running. Raiders owner Al Davis has an affinity for reclamation projects.Moving Culpepper for at least a first-round draft pick and a bona fide starter would solve the Vikings' quarterback conflict, allowing Brad Johnson, who would be 38, to start in coach Brad Childress' West Coast offense next season. The Vikings then would have to use a first-round pick to draft a QB to develop and sign a veteran backup, perhaps free agent Chris Weinke of the Carolina Panthers and St. Paul.) You have to wonder whether Culpepper's recent 45-minute phone conversation with Childress went sour.

If he goes to the Raiders, we may get to see that old Culpepper to Moss dealy be resurrected. That would be cool, definitely. What QB do you think they would draft?

Im not sure if drafting a QB would be an immediate need there, i guess so since Johnson is 37...but I dont think a QB coming off that injury would be worth the risk of the #6 overall pick in the draft, especially if he wont be ready for the beginning of the next season. Not only that, but this has to be complete specualtion since the Raiders dont even have a coach yet.

Allow me to clue you clueless peeps into the "great" sports mind, that is Charlie "Shooter" Walters. Wanna know what else Shooter thinks will happen? That the T'Wolves would trade Khandi to Denver for Kenyon Martin. Yeah...Denver will send their 2nd best player to a division rival for the stiff that is the Khandi Man. Shooter also thinks it's worth the time to tell people when Mike Tice is going ice fishing, or that KG got a meatball sub at Subway on Thursday night.I don't get my world news from The National Enquirer, and I don't get sports news from Charlie Walters. The guy is a fucking joke and so is his "column."1. His agent, or soon to be ex-agent, is quoted in today's papers as confirming that Daunte did NOT authorize him to make those absurd comments, one day after Daunte was reported to be furious with his agent to the point of firing him.2. He's not really looking for more money. Just asking that the Wilfs live up to their promise they made last year. The $8m he got last May, was step 1 in renegotiating a more cap friendly contract this off-season. His old deal under Cheapy McCombs was (shocking... rolleyes.gif ) heavily backloaded and mostly unatainable money. Daunte was conversing with Mark and Zygi Wilf on a more private level, and then his Drew Rosenhaus wannabe agent took a different route.3. The teams "rumored" to be interested in him are pretty easy to throw out there. Consider....Raiders (Moss), Cardinals (Denny), Ravens (Billick) all have Culpepper ties, so the media throws those teams out there. Nevermind that Daunte and Moss are the NFL Kobe/Shaq....he didn't really like Denny Green....and Billick left before Daunte started to flourish, mostly under Scott Linehan.4. Wilf is on record numerous times in just the last week alone, saying Daunte WILL be getting his $6m roster bonus. Seems absurd to trade a guy (forget release...that's rediculous) after giving him a bonus like that.5. His trade value is rock bottom right now. Torn ACL, MCL, and PCL...a terrible 6 games last year....and really, the Vikings aren't rebuilding. A good free agency run and draft, and we are right there. Having a 38 year old QB in Johnson and a rookie back-up isn't really condusive to a team making a playoff/Super Bowl run in 2006-2007. So, logistically, trading DC makes no sense either.

Sorry to bring up the old topic. But on ATH today, I heard a possible trade in the works was Culpepper for Jamal Lewis. Only thing I question is, isn't Lewis a FA??

I say, trade Culpepper for Brees. That would be an excellent trade since both QB's are starters.

San Diego is not going to release Drew Brees...Phillip Rivers needs to get out of there now, 3 years as a backup? Not the way I want to spend my NFL career especially when you were regarded as one of the top QB's to come out of the draft.

All Culpepper has done in his career is get tons of money by lobbing the ball up to 2 of the greatest recievers to ever play the game in Moss and Carter. This past season should have been enough to prove to you that if his surrouning cast is only mediocre, that he isnt good enough to get the job done. Facing the facts, Culpepper hasnt done shit in the playoffs, hasnt done shit without having one of the greatest recievers ever on his sidelines and I personally think that he is very overrated.

First of all it was an entire new offense because of the new coordinator. secondly, Burleson their top WR missed alot of games. You can also add that the running game was horrible because moe williams, bennett, etc werent producing. The whole offense was confused and they didnt know what to do. The team was in shambles due to the off the field problems also. Culpepper is a very good qb and I dont think we should consider him bad because of 1 year. What has Brees proved? He has arguably the best rb in the AFC and arguably the best TE in the AFC. Brees hasnt proved anything in the playoffs either losing to the JETS and not even making them this year.
