Give me Mercy Kersey, Porter, Buck, Duck and the rest of the supporting cast any day. Along with Clyde they would have won a championship if not for MJ and an even stronger supporting cast. That Bulls team was one of the best ever with maybe Kareem, Magic & Worthy et al the exception.

 

Drexler did not do more with less, it is once again proof that Clyde had a much better GM for the majority of his time in Portland.

 

come on T you are better than this. By this analysis you would be saying that all first round busts are better than second round gems. Im nto even gonna research specifics.
But one example would be:

Cj drafted in the first.
Draymond green in the second.

Who is better?

Exactly....their production for many of them being low 1st to 2nd round picks seemed to outperform their selection spot playing with Clyde.

And of course there are a lot of 'exceptions' to be listed. I'm looking at the broader, overall ranking of where they were Drafted. Higher draft picks typically do better, or teams would trade away all their 1st round picks and just draft in the 2nd round. People react like I'm saying Dame isn't a great player....he very much is. But when we look at results, and overall game outside of just scoring, I'm not sure Dame has reached that 'greatest' level just yet compared to Walton or Drexler. Total accumulation? Sure. Greatest? How is it not at least reasonable to have a question or a debate? Reasonable responses welcomed.

 

Its hard to respond reasonably to such an unreasonable take though.

Think abojt what you are saying. Dame isnt as good because his Gm could pit better players around him to help elevate his accolades.

this is about the best player. Not the best team and you are judging Dame on the team. Im surprised at how you think thats reasonable.

I just came to ask this question myself. Clyde is supposedly a classy guy and it certainly seems like it would be the classy thing to do.

 

He was cheering him on just before he broke the record. Didn't see if he congratulated him after or not.

No worries, but you got my reasoning wrong. I've gone over it too many times to spend even more time. Dame is a tremendous player. I would like that player, if he is the greatest, and the best leader in the NBA, to have it manifest in more tangible results other than just individual. Not sure how that is unreasonable. If a player is that great as a player and a leader, that tends to elevate teammates, yes? No? Walton and Drexler elevated the pieces they had around them to a higher level. Part of that is, they also made impacts on the defensive side of the ball instead of constantly having to have other teammates cover for them. For Dame to be the greatest, I have to ignore 1/2 of the game, and when looking at the big picture, that is tough to do. It feels disrespectful to Bill and Clyde. Dame is the greatest offensive player to be sure. Overall? Not there yet....IMO.

Again, by your analysis Meyers Leonard would be as good as Duckworth if he played with clyde or Aminu as good as Kersey.

Im just not buying it. To think Cliffy would be another Collins if it weren't for Clyde, doesn't jive in my assumption category.

 

Comparing pick # to evaluate the strenght of a team might be the stupidest argument I've seen on here, which says a lot.

The reining back to back MVP was a second rounder ffs. But I guess Meyers Fucking Leonard is better than him since he's a lottery pick

 

yeah, I agree. TB's argument was really weird

the reality for me is this:

* Buck Williams was better than any PF Dame has played with, and yeah, that includes Aldridge.

* Kiki Vandeweigh & Jerome Kersey were better than any SF's Dame has played with

* Terry Porter & Rod Strickland were better than any guards Dame has played with

* Mychal Thompson was better than any C Dame has played with, but Nurkic is better than Duckworth, mostly

* Cliff Robinson, Jim Paxson, Danny Ainge, & Drazen Petrovich were better than any bench players Dame has played with

* Jack Ramsey and Rick Adelman were better than any coaches Dame has played for

* whoever were the Blazer GM's during Clyde's tenure were better GM's than Olshey.

I don't think any of that is really debatable. Maybe a couple of quibbles, at most. To try and argue that Dame had a better supporting cast than Clyde is ludicrous
