I don’t think there’s the same amount of logic between building around Lillard (again) and building around Sharpe, Simons, Walker etc. One has a much much shorter timeline. One has been tried for years. I’m not sold on Anfernee as the guy to build around either. I think everyone is on the table. But giving up a bunch of young assets for another/2nd “superstar” isn’t realistic. And leaves the cupboard bare. And everyone knows Lillard is amazing, and loyal, and the best blazer. But I think it’s actually awkward when he talks about winning a championship here. It’s seems so aloof and out of touch, or is he just saying it because it’s the right thing to say? He thinks he’s winning a title here? He’s not. But they could build a new roster with pieces back from letting him go win a championship somewhere else. It will never ever happen. But that’s what seems the most logical and smart thing to do.
If we could get a three to five year run going, where we are in serious contention. I would definitely leave the cupboard bare. When he plays for the first time with a guy that complements his talents like JG does, I don't think he's delusional to talk about a championship. Moves need to be made and they aren't moves I expect Dame to see but they are moves I hope Joe can see, that can make this team contenders for a small window and then we will have to rebuild. Maybe Joe will find a way to do that and keep Shae but maybe that's not the straightest line to a championship and that's what I think this team should be aiming for. Or they should go all logic and kick the can down a winding path towards a possible future championship with Shae as the main piece. Personally I like the situation where we show loyalty.
They’ve shown loyalty by paying him a shit ton of money, especially this current deal. If they can get this second superstar with guys on this roster, by all means, go for it
I hope Myles schools Nurk to show Cronin that he needs to negotiate with Indy. Is it still Kevin Pritchard?
Wish this team had kept McLemore. Someone who could go off on offense from the Bench. The lack of bench production for the last month or two has been killing them. No one to pick up the slack when Dame and or ant struggle to score.
turner is not better than nurkic. why do people keep repeating this idea? do you guys not value rebounding and passing? hell nurk is even a better shooter than turner and is cheaper while being locked in long term. ugh
how long do you think it will take sharpe to get there? i wish we would feature him more on the second unit.
I think there will be a lot of sellers at the deadline this year. Atlanta is a mess. Toronto just isn’t working. Chicago is going in the wrong direction. Does Utah finally start the tank? Not sure if Cronin will get involved though.
I don't personally see him getting there this year. I don't think you can have Ant, Keon and Sharpe all in the same position and all needing time to develop. One maybe two, but can't have three, plus Jabari and Trendon all needing time to develop. Need some veterans who can play and score on the bench, not all development players. Going to run the starters into the ground and that is when injuries happen.
Joe better. Why did we tank last season? Because just getting to the WCF wasn't enough. Now I know there is a longer game at play than just this season. We are so lacking in size besides Nurk and I also think that Dame and Ant have shown themselves to be less than complementary.
I tend to agree. Turner has some really good games sometimes but watching him against Nurk for two games it seemed a wash and he is looking for a big contract.
Yeah, a realistic assessment that this team is on a treadmill and very likely can't go anywhere beyond the first rd with Dame is the first and key step IMO. Do you squander assets in a desperate attempt to win with a 32 yr old Dame or realize it's time to move on. I strongly favor moving on as I am very tired of the "type" of basketball this team plays with Dame and IMO we really have no chance of going anywhere. Would prefer a rebuild
Let's explore trading Simons for Lauri Markkanen. The Blazers would be much improved with a strong 3 and D forward, better scoring, spread court, balance, height, and rim protection. We would even save salary, as Lauri has a contract for only $16.5 M.
