I keep thinking that getting a solid PF is easier than finding a good SF. It seems to me that Grant can play either spot, and getting a PF and moving Grant to SF instantly solves the Blazers’ size problems. Thoughts?
Instantly solving the Blazers size problems could have happened by playing Grant at the 3 and Drew at the 4 with Nurk at the 5. Then playing Walker a bit more and actually making a move for a true backup Center. Size problem solved.
Agreed, likely easier to find a PF in the traditional sense. Although, I do feel the game has generically broken down position wise to ball handlers, wings, and bigs. I do feel Grant has basically been playing SF for us this season, with Hart playing more of the PF role, which is why Grant's rebounding #s don't bother me too much.
I’ve thought about that too. I’m not sure that Drew has enough of an outside shot for today’s PF position. I would love to see Chauncey play with that lineup though.
Hart has been solid and I agree he kind of plays the PF role on the defensive end. He’s a bandaid though. The Blazers need size. Pissed me off the way the Raptors manhandled them with Nurk and Hart out.
I think it depends on who he is on the court with. Before the season I did not think Grant had the handles to play 3 but I was wrong. Right now we could play him at the 3 alongside Watford who is a good ball handler for a PF, and is potentially a better 3 pt shooter and probably a better perimeter defender than Drew. But that does not answer the "Contender" part of the question.
That’s a really good idea. Again, I would love to see Chauncey give it a shot. But my main reason for the thread is what is the vision for the roster once another impact player is added? Is Cronin looking for a 3 or a 4? How he views Grant’s role impacts what he’s looking to add.
It will depend on who is available. I would prefer another forward who can play both spots but they have to be able to create their own shot. John Collins or Siakam.....
Not on any contender? So you think that Dillon Brooks is that much better than Grant that if the two were swapped Memphis would no longer be a contender? How about Denver, is Gordon that much better or does the Joker make him that much better?
Maybe he would pair up well with a C like Bamba? https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/mo-bamba-shot-chart-this-season
