That deal is weird as hell. It makes me think that Ainge really wants to compete next year and is valuing cap space to sing some pieces this summer. Not a bad plan if so, just rebuild around their rookie C and Markennan plus free agent signings and a shitload of future draft picks. I get it. Also, any free agent signings can be used as ballast in trades (with the shitload of picks).
yet at the time he signed it I was assured by many posters that it was a reasonable contract... STOMP
Ok...... let's zoom out and look at the big picture. We dealt a borderline All-star guy who was locked up for a while for two expiring guys. We just dumped one for a project and a highly protected pick. The other guy could potentially leave for nothing. We needed the CJ trade to be a home run and it has the possibility to be a real fucking disaster if Grant walks.
Grant walking would be a disaster. I saw some report that he’s linked to DET again this summer. Oh well, it’s my fault my dumb ass thought he could change if he leaves.
Dame, "I wanna win a championship in Portland" Cronin, "I just got Ryan Arcidiacono and Svi Mykhailiuk, now go get your ring!"
To anyone in here that thinks they are being so reasonable and patient and realistic, so therefore they are condescendingly lecturing other fans to be the same way. What the fuck do you think this is? Why don't you try being realistic about how sports fans act? Is this new to you? In other words just cut it out. I get being impatient with constantly negative people who are this way every day of the year but at the trade deadline, if you take some time and think about it, emotions are going to run high. Calling people out for it is pretty fucking petty but if it makes you feel superior by all means carry on.
GP2's Free Agent signing effectively signaled the end of Hart's time in PDX. It cost them nothing in draft capitol or roster talent to acquire Gary and of course there are two more years on his deal. I like that they got some decent draft capitol back for Hart as he's essentially a rental for the Knicks. STOMP
If you think there's any reasonable chance you can't re-sign Grant, you deal him by the deadline. With all the star power coming to the West, a run this year is out of the question, but there's might be a team willing to overpay to keep up with the Joneses.
I'll continue to say this, with zero inside knowledge: The Grant deal was almost certainly locked up many months ago. Like many Blazer re-signs, I worry it's going to be over market. I'm guessing 5-150.
I liked your post but I'm thinking the same. If there isn't a wink wink solid deal with Jerami, already agreed to then we have to trade him and recoup what we can in the next 12 and 3/4 hours.
Yes, obviously if there was a backroom deal and already a handshake agreement with Grant, that changes things, hence the part about thinking there's any reasonable chance you won't get him back.
There is still over 12 and a half hours. Let's just see how things shake out and then we can talk about what Joe is doing and has done.
With KD now on the Suns, it only makes sense to keep Grant. Anything over $28-30m/year and I’ll still vomit. Sigh…
I'm giving Joe time but all signs point towards him sticking with the Dame/Ant back court and nothing could be more reminiscent of Olshey with the Dame/CJ back court. In this case Cronin could just be lying to Dame and hoping he fades into a high priced backup on a young team but regardless if Cronin is dedicated to the Dame/Ant back court he is either as blind as Olshey or extremely disingenuous with our guy Dame.
Bro, you got issues. Calling people fuckers and dumbasses because Josh Hart got traded? You take this shit WAY to serious, like it actually impacts your daily life. Lighten up.
