I think we have no chance of winning title but if you could choose between getting swept in the NBA Finals or getting the #1 pick, what would you choose? Is there value for a deep run that comes up short?
Put it this way: if you're old enough to remember the finals in 90 and 92 and the WCF in 2000 - do you remember them fondly? Or are they still a source of rage and pain?
I look back at them as more fun seasons than what we’ve had the last 20 years. So it’s difficult. Watching Dame win a Western Conference championship would be fun but getting swept by Bucks would suck.
I can tell you this, I imagine that most if not all major businesses would find it unacceptable to not be competitive enough to have a shot at being the best in 30+ years. Meaning in any other business the Blazers only being in the conference finals once and not in the Finals in 30+ years to me, as a fan, is completely unacceptable. I get that things happen (ie bad luck) but it also tells me the Blazers aren't trying hard enough or the right way.
I sense an agenda behind stipulating Portland gets to the finals only to be swept if that's the stipulation than the other side of it should be that the Blazers either get swept in the finals or have a 14% chance at Wembeyana
Who does Wembenyama compare to? If it is Durant then sure. But I don't see it. I think he will be very good, but I don't consider him a generational-type HOF player.
Wouldn't say he's an elite shooter like KD was coming out of college, but he could be. He definitely has never before seen length and defensive upside considering he can really move. I'd maybe say most like an Evan Mobley who can really shoot at 3 levels.
We're not getting either. We aren't getting Wemby and we aren't getting that far in the playoffs if we make them but I would choose a guy they're calling a once in a generation talent over getting swept in the Finals even though that ride would be fun.
