They are in super tax territory. The difference between his salary and GP2's for this year and next, with the tax penalty they will get, comes to almost $30m iirc (edit, $30m next year, $7m this year)
Could this be a ploy by the Warriors to get GP for cheaper? Rescind the deal, have GP then be bought out by the Blazers (there is no way he will still play here with all this), then sign him for cheap off the buyout market?
didn't he go to the same guy that Dame/Nas did? i read up on him (he taught at my alma mater). seemed like the premiere guy doing these kinda procedures
If so, Dame is fine. I guess it's possible to botch one and not the other. It seems like GP should have been healed by this point.
Zero chance the Warriors had no opportunity to speak with Payton's representation about how he was feeling physically and about coming back to GS.
Warrior stans are dragging the Blazers on social media right now, but something doesn't pass the smell test. The biggest thing being GPII sat so long for a guy being rushed back and even got plenty of rest after he did. If he was being rushed back, not sure why it took until Jan. 10 for the Blazers to force him to suddenly play ... and still let him sit out two games after that.
That would cost them A LOT of money. And Blazers could play hardball by not buying him out but just sending him away for the season to "recuperate". Then they could trade him in the offseason.
How much of the trade can be re-negotiated after the deadline? Do all 4 teams have to stay involved? Can other players be added/removed?
Nas had it too. He seems fine. "Pain" by itself could mean any number of things, and it's also possible to have pain but be cleared to play. So who the fuck nows. Actually, the main reason I'm inclined to burn Cronin/FO right now is BECAUSE of the players. Players tend to support each other, regardless of situation, and we know Payton was supposedly close to a lot of the guys on the team (Dame, Grant, etc.). Yet NONE of them seemed to give a single shit that he's gone. It's possible the players didn't know what was going on with Gary, but I doubt that. They've been with him for months.
pretty sleazy of GS and Shams tbh. but the ultimate fault lies on Joe for signing him in the first place.
