Reasonable take. But I’ll take it further but in a different direction. The Trader Bob way of having big enough contracts to make future trades (and that balancing act) for Cronin giving Nurkic that extra year (ack!) but to KEEP that trade asset … and trading Hart’s contract for a fairly likely 1st rather than an overpay or just losing it … and acquiring a full MLE contract for nothing but $$$ and the limitations that went with it … … these are not “very good” acquisitions IMHO … however, they’re needed or else trades become about selling off key players to get others seen as key players with less to add to it (or instead of it).
that would imply that the Warriors have till Sunday to rescind....unless the initial trade call was 24 hours before the news came out about the trade and...this could be the Warriors trying to un-paint themselves into the corner, while already justifying bringing Payton back a lot sooner than 3 months
the fact that this failed physical leaked to the media instead of informing the Blazers org is what is most egregious.
If the Warriors are looking to get back any of the 2nd round picks, I would make it contingent on when GP2 plays next. (or if he reinjures it)
The entire Payton saga was bad. I’m just glad he’s off our roster and we can play guys that are interested in playing and winning. Losing sucks but losing while your big FA signing is laughing and goofing around with the opponent is kinda brutal.
Honestly I wouldn’t care if we gave Payton to them for the 2 2nd rounders that will most likely convey. Reddish and Thybulle are much more interesting to me than GP2.
any of this renegotiation of picks exchanged is an admission of guilt. the team did nothing wrong. don't set that precedent. GS was fully aware of all his injury issues.
I agree with you definitely about getting the 2 best, conveying 2nd rounders … BUT I say heck with it and get 5 or trade him this summer 1st thing when he’s had months to leave no excuses. Either way. EDIT: Okay, illmatic99 just moved me back to a full and unrelenting kick rocks to the Warriors. No admission of guilt and let the Warriors piss off other teams in the deal.
Has anyone else noticed in that video of GPII walking through the Warriors' weight room that no one gives him even a glance? Kind of weird.
None of this can be done. It is past the trade deadline so nothing can be exchanged anymore between teams. Either the Warriors accept the trade as they called it in or the entire thing is off.
I trust you on the rule, but I have a hard time believing the NBA could/would not make a this small exception since there are so many teams/players involved
In my uneducated opinion, it would be difficult for the Warriors to back out of this deal. First, as we've heard, this "three months" quote was just a guess, it may just be a few weeks. Second, the trade saves the Warriors a TON of money and gives them a useful asset who knows the system and who thrives in it. Third, now that they have waived the white flag on Wiseman, it's doubtful they could ever get a better return for him. Fourth, there's no way you can bring Wiseman back in terms of chemistry. He knows he's unwanted, the players know he's not part of the plan, and they'll get nothing from him this season, whereas with Payton, they'll at least get something.
It's in the CBA they can't make tiny or large exceptions... otherwise teams could be petitioning the league office day in and day out after the trade deadline for exceptions and effectively there would be no trade deadline. I don't really want to do the leg work but there are a few tweets in this thread that explain it from reporters. I think this fact is in most of the stories posted by legit sports news outlets too.
It's actually an official rule. Otherwise, NBA trades would be like closing on a home. You agree on a price, inspect the home, then try to get that price discounted by finding a small fault. That process would take weeks or longer, where you have players in limbo. As an aside, you really don't think the Warriors understand this injury? It happened on their watch and they know GPII.
