Watched it last night and after a year of honing his hour he ended it completely bitch slapping Will Smith and Jada Pinket Smith....this is how you get some payback...with humor and brutal honestly. Was really glad to see Rock put this one in the record books a year after the Oscar slap. The special was raw and cutting edge.....ending it with the long Will Smith bit was powerful. Talk about patience in addressing it publicly...he did what good standups do...he entertained with it. He's a great comic.

Not coincidence he did this standup a week before the Oscars. The perfect response to the slap.

Just finished it, He "Rocked" it!

The Will Smith was hilarious and cutting. I wonder if Will and Jada will have anything to say.

The start of it was pretty boring, tbh. Very easy "woke" jokes.

I'm curious what bits you found "woke or boring"? The abortion bit or the women have power bit? I thought it was a well crafted hour myself. I also thought he ramped it up at just the right time to lead into the ending . Great dynamics in my view and I watch a ton of standup comedy.

It's not new humor. The whole "I saw a commercial with a Japanese woman marrying a caterpillar...with squirrel children".

it's like someone who thinks they're funny, but really aren't.

I'll give you that one...that was a clunker but it hardly comes off as "woke" comedy in my view.
I'm in the camp that Chris Rock is really funny whether he thinks it or not. All comedians need confidence in their material so that applies across the board.

Choices....I'm also not alone in finding it brilliant but I don't need links to share that. I respect your reaction. Just wasn't mine at all.

I liked it. My kids... Not so much...

That's okay. Good for Chris! I hope Will Smith calls him and tells him it was funny as hell.

Seems to me.... like it's not funny to people who drank the coolaid. :dunno:

Sorry but the opener is relevant. If any industry has an issue with woke politics, it's comedy.

Also..... Rock repeating himself has been his style for decades. That's his whole style. Have you ever watched one of his specials before?

Felt the same way about the repetition but took me back to some of his old sets that I listened to quite a bit. Yes it wasn't packed with A+ material the entire time but overall was very funny, I found myself laughing out loud more than a few times and of course he saved the best for last. Overall I'd say a solid B+ or A- from Rock!
