Why does Cronin get credit for free looks at other busts that weren't playing much or at all on their previous teams but when it comes to Wiseman, who plays a position a vast majority of you can't stand the starter at that position, it's "he's a worthless bust and Joe knows what he's doing?"
Good question. They certainly should get another big man if they’re trying to make the playoffs. I’d think it would be a good tell as to Cronin’s intent. No big = quiet tank, IMO.
yeah...the 'value' of an expiring contract on a bad player. That's a negative asset unless you really ratchet up your imagination say the Blazers have the 12th pick and the 20th pick. Two picks outside of the top 10 don't have high value. Those two picks plus Wiseman's contract don't increase the value of the package, and the potential options the Wiseman contract opens up are extremely limited, if they would even be there at all. Shade's of RLEC probably the best option with a 12th & 20th picks would be to to consolidate into an 8th or 9th or 10th pick. Or to trade the 20th pick for Portland's own first back from Chicago freeing up all their future picks Portland traded Payton for: about 3.3 future 2nd round picks; about 6M in space below the current tax line; a 5.4M TPE; about 2M in salary relief this season; and 18M in payroll relief over the next 2 seasons. That's better than eating Wiseman's contract on some extreme long shot of parlaying it into some magic trade
Funny how many of Dame's peers love him, and appreciate his amazing game, but some in here can't wait to get rid of him. Worst are the ones who say, I love Dame, but. The but means you really don't.
Because the Warriors think he is a bust. And many in here, feel the Warrior's management is the gospel of basketball. So if Joe and his staff thinks that , maybe they're on to something as well. The Blazers financial commitment to free agent flyers is minimal at best. But if you don't like what you see in a guy, you're not going to sign that player. Reddish was part of a trade. If he hits, awesome. If not ,oh well move on.
The Cam Reddish move is looking pretty good at this point. Not only a decent role player but they got a pick as well. Here is a little story that might have been posted elsewhere but i couldn't find so here it is. https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/...0230311-hnc6dhhlurc7dmdygsfzzc75ma-story.html Here is a tid bit but you can read the whole story. It's not long at all. “I’m in a completely different place. Now I’m blessed. Not everybody gets another opportunity so it’s refreshing,” said Reddish, the 10th overall pick in 2019. “I got some great teammates. Great staff. It’s real positive around here. Win, lose or draw. It’s not somebody beating you over your head — not that that was happening in New York — but it’s more my style.”
I was sad to see Hart traded. He's a special role player. I also didn't fully invest in the idea that Portland couldn't afford his next contract; not when I think about what that contract might be and look at the contracts of Ant & Nurk but the return for trading Hart was Reddish, Thybulle, and a 1st. That's pretty good, especially considering the handle and court vision Reddish has been showing. It was also a decent step in getting bigger and longer
I agree with you. As you alluded to he is a special "role" player. One that every team can use. But he is not a starting SF. A starting guard maybe, but if we get a starting SF (Cam) and a 1st out of him, that is a good deal especially when we have Thybulle on the roster who I think is a slightly better defender. We will have to wait to see what NY's pick brings, (maybe in a trade or maybe a backup center) but Sharpe will need minutes next year, and Hart was not going to start.
IMO this is a really troubling quote from Reddish. At 23 years old he's been playing basketball for well over a decade and he doesn't know that there are no draws in basketball. If this quote came from Shaedon I could be a little more forgiving because he grew up in Canada so I could understand him confusing the rules in hockey with the rules in basketball but Cam grew up in Pennsylvania. Just really worried about an american basketball player who thinks games end in ties.
because Cam Reddish and Thybulle and a first round pick are all better than Wiseman? Also because everyone knew with injuries that we weren't contenders this season midway through and it was time to plan for the offseason. Golden State needed a guy Wiseman's size too but apparently didn't value him enough to put him next to their big 3.....Mike Schmidt knows talent evaluation even if you think Joe doesn't. I think Joe is looking ahead and as he said earlier in the season...this is a season for new guys to learn to play together. My idea at this point is that we need a coaching change more than anything else. There was no short time fix to Olshey's era for Joe and he said it would take time to put a contender together and it will ...it's roster tryout season. See Sharpe's minutes and production and you'll realize he's not the guy who's going to win games at this point. We have a coach who can't really coach an endgame yet and doesn't have much of a playbook.
Besides the four future 1st round picks & Portland having no player to part with on par with Bridges, 34 year old KD publicly requested to be in Phoenix. After three games, he blew out his ankle in warmups and is out for a long while. Like most older players, he's been missing more and more games as his career fades. Meanwhile the Nets have won 4 of their last 5 Trading the future for guys on the downside of their career is not the path I hope the PTB take. STOMP
Phoenix is such a bad comp for Portland. People forget they were a non-playoff team as recently as the bubble year. Lotto assets as trade ballast don’t grow on trees—it requires fan pain and a tears irrigation system.
