Why couldn't that be true? Right now there is a lot of hope that he could be a really good player. 3-4 years from now it's possible that is proven be untrue. We've seen the story of unrealized potential unfold plenty of times.

It's hard to be really really good in the NBA. How a player handles being the #1 or #2 option on a scout it a tough thing to replicate.

?? Where do they pinch pennies? I don't mind ragging on Jody et al, but that really isn't true.

I didn't say it was impossible... just that it made no sense.

It's obviously not impossible to win the lottery, but that doesn't mean buying lottery tickets makes sense.

That Suns team was a fluke, in terms of how far they made it and in terms of roster composition, but if you think that it's a smart approach for a franchise to dictate that the two untouchable players on your roster are 13 years apart, then go ahead. And get some lottery tickets while you're at it.

Rough game. If you were paying attention you knew it was coming. OKC took Sharpe out of his game. Great news is he adjusted at half time. Next game will be interesting to see how he attacks the defense

It was cool to see Lillard mentoring him on how to attack those type of defense. It was nice to see Sharpe applied what he learned during the game. He was running out on the fast break to score. It was also the first time he seen this type of defense in his life especially against an elite nba defender in Herb Jones

Hoopsjock has detailed the many instances over the last few years in a handful of threads. I can't recall every example, but there were trades where we gave up a player and pick for money (Atlanta I believe), where we let TPE's expire, selling draft picks, not using our full MLE of BAE, and of course not having a developmental team.

All of the cost savings moves done the past couple of years were done with the intent of staying under the LT so as to avoid starting the repeater penalties early. If people can’t understand that, they should really take the time to study the issue on Larry Coons’ CBA FAQ page. How anyone could conclude that the Blazers are cheap after giving Dame a monstrous extension, giving significant extensions to Simons and Nurk, and paying Grant with the intent of giving him a huge new contract, I’ll never understand.

would a cheap organization have brought in a ridiculous Bigfoot mascot?

As someone who does have an understanding of the CBA: How does not having a G-League team keep them under the LT? How does not having a GM search and hiring one on the cheap, impact the LT? Same question about the president. Same question about the coach.

If Jody's #1 goal is to stay under the tax, then she's been doing a bang up job. Maybe we should hang a banner for all those under the tax years.

It's funny you bring that up, as I was talking to my buddy about that at the game last night while he was walking around. He said, "I can just picture the FO meeting where they're talking about the poor attendence, apathy, and overall disinterest. Then when asked what they can do to turn it around without having to invest much, someone said 'Let's have a second mascot, that'll be cheap and certainly do the trick.' and then somehow multiple people agreed."

I laughed because it was ridiculous... kinda.

Is it poor attendance? They're at 96% according to ESPN (and if you say they fake those #'s, that'd be true of every team).

There’s A LOT of empty arenas around the league regardless of what’s being reported.

The G League team is a point for your argument. Cronin’s hiring I would chalk up to a belief in Joe based on his long record with the team. It also fits with the notion that he’s a placeholder until the team is sold. Take your pick, I don’t think it says much about Jody being cheap.

The Blazers will have the full non-taxpayer MLE available to them this summer as a result of staying under the LT. If they don’t use that to add a quality player, then the whole argument about the value of having stayed under the LT fizzles. Feel free to rub my nose in it if that happens.
