Any change to the names we were throwing around last yr? I think he has far more playmaking potential than I originally assumed. And he has legit two way potential that he will realize sooner tha later. We were thinking Paul George, Jaylen Brown, etc. Think that's on the right track. I also said Kobe last yr but Shaedon needs a maniacal work ethic to get close to that ceiling. His mixture of power dunks in traffic and solid three pt shot evokes Vince Carter thoughts as well. It's wild that it seems like he can actually hit these ceilings we're projecting for him.
I said a blend of VC and Brandon Roy and I still like that quite a bit. I've seen McGrady thrown around (which feels similar).
It's really hard not to see Paul George on the offensive end, though Sharpe is probably the more explosive athlete. I think his build will more closely resemble Paul George when all is said and done rather than a guy like Jaylen Brown. As he becomes more confident in his ballhandling and off-the-drible creation, the sky is really the limit for him offensively. I'm not sure if his defensive abilities will match peak Paul George, but he is certainly physically capable. The two primary questions I have, and it's simply because I don't know rather than skepticism, but 1) does he have the drive? and 2) can he actually be a strong team leader? If the answer to both of those questions are "yes," then a Paul George-ceiling comp may even be underselling him.
I honestly don’t know. It’s too hard to really put anything on him until we see what his work ethic is like. He can fly like Vince or Jordan. He can shoot it and at times looks like Dame. He slinks through the paint like Kobe. I was always impressed how Kobe could just weave through traffic like water. I definitely see that in Shaedon at times. He has endless potential on offense. I’m really hoping to see his potential on defense. He also has promising chops as a distributor.
What is his defensive rating since he started getting heavy minutes? Any way to look that up? Is it even possible to tell if he is a capable defender with such horrible defensive teammates around him?
Paul George with more explosion has been my comp for awhile now. Except as a 19 year old George was putting up decent stats at Fresno State, not scoring at ease over the likes of Rudy Gobert
The eyeball test shows me he’s one of our best man defenders. Great at sticking with his man and using quick feet to stay in front. It’s his team defense where he gets lost a lot. But he’s just a young gunna.
I don’t really hold Carter in that high of regard as most. Great dunker, great in open court, but his iso game left a lot to be desired. I think Sharpe can be a better shot creator
Me neither but his speed, dunks and athleticism remind me of Carter. His half court game and his man to man defense reminds me of Leonard.
Kinda somewhat, sure, but let’s not go crazy. So tired of this fan base over valuing our young players
His game and demeanor are so much like TMac, he's just a little smaller and quite a bit better than TMac was at this stage of his career. Just think about what Shae will be if he gets a summer with Dame and Phil Beckner. His growth will be bonkers.
Agreed. I was watching VC’s 03-04 highlights to see how this comp held up. I see VC’s open court ability and athleticism in Sharpe, but nothing else. It’s hard for me to come up with one guy as a comp offensively for Sharpe. His midrange game reminds me of Booker/PG. Sharpe also has shown an ability to lull his guy to sleep, probably better than any of those guys despite having the worst handle. So if his handle improves, he could have that hesitation game similar to the elite ball handlers like Dame, Kyrie, Harden, etc. His jumpshot really reminds me of Kobe. And we’ve seen videos of him practicing on the post where he really looks like Kobe/MJ. Defensively, it’s a little hard for me to judge or come up with a comp, I just know he’ll be alright on that end. I think the biggest thing will be making sure he doesn’t handle the ball the majority of the time so he actually has energy to expend on that side of the floor. This dude is 19.
Ok I'm not saying he is going to be Kobe Bryant (I do think the potential is there) but if you look at the highlights from Kobe's rookie year and you factor in WHO Kobe was playing with I think you can see some similarities in their rookie years. Kobe was a bit more aggressive which I think Shae will become. This off season how he returns as a player will tell me a lot about what to expect in the future. https://stathead.com/tiny/Y2FqC
I hope he puts in the work on his handles, seems to be biggest weakness (although not terrible). I think T Mac/Vince is fair comparison. Surprised at how comfortable he is taking the ball to the hoop as 19 year old combine that with a smooth 3pt shot. I dare say this kids ceiling is Kobe his potential is that good. So smooth doesn’t even look like he’s forcing to get 25 a night. At this point there are very few players in this league that I would even consider trading him for.
