<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>49ers win coin toss for sixth spot in draftBy Len PasquarelliESPN.comIt might not have carried the impact of the 10 regular-season games in which the Bay Area rivals have met, but San Francisco's "victory" over the Oakland Raiders on Friday, in a coin toss to determine the sixth and seventh overall choices in the draft, still felt pretty important to 49ers officials."It gives us a better spot to find more quality football players," 49ers coach Mike Nolan said.By virtue of identical 4-12 records and the same opponents' winning percentage (.539), the Raiders and 49ers tied for sixth and seventh in draft order. The tie was broken Friday with the coin flip, as San Francisco vice president of player personnel Scot McCloughan won with a call of "tails."The flip officially sets the order of selection in the first round, as the 49ers will choose in the sixth slot and the Raiders in the seventh position. The other 30 slots in the first round had already been determined.Beyond setting the first-round order, winning the coin toss also provides San Francisco an advantage in some early-round subsequent rounds as well. In a rotation with the four other franchises that posted 4-12 records in 2005, the 49ers will own the fifth pick in the second round, the fourth choice in the third round, and the third pick in the fourth round. San Francisco will select seventh in Round 5, sixth in the sixth round and fifth in the final round, barring trades. While the 49ers benefit by just one spot in the first round, that margin could be significant, given the way the picks might come off the board."It puts us one slot ahead of where we might have been and we can take a player we have our eye on," McCloughan said.Senior writer Len Pasquarelli covers the NFL for ESPN.com.</div> http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft06/news/story?id=2343448
I thought this was already done? Didn't someone post it on here saying the 49ers won the toss, like 2 months ago?

Because it seems unlikely that ESPN would make a false story, with quotes from players, coaches, ect 2 months after the sportsline one was out.
This is going to effect a lot of things including the Bills pick.I now have:5 - Packers: Aj Hawk6 - 49ers: Mario Williams7 - Raiders: Haloti Ngata

Vernon has blown everyone away at the combine.Hawk plays on defense (offense needs alot more help). Vernon plays and anhilates on offense (Will help Alex Smith out alot).Hawk has not mentioned the 49ers. Vernon has mentioned he talked with SF and would like to play there.Hawk will not be a 49er after April 29th. Vernon will be the 49ers 1st rounder on April 29th.
Why would you draft Vernon Davis when you already had Eric Johnson who was tearing it up there last season?Hawk is the much more likely pick since you will need to replace Julian Peterson after he signs elsewheres.

In the other two he was on IR, he didnt even play one game in either of the IR seasons. Thats what you call super injury-prone. Plus after this season he is a FA, I dont know why the 49ers would want to keep his injury-prone ass. Vernon Davis is the perfect compliment for Alex Smith. He is a freak and major mismatch to opposing defenses. The 49ers need playmakers on offense where they can help Smith. VD is a playmaker, he can be an Antonio Gates type impact on the 49ers.The 49ers can get a LB in the 2nd or 3rd round, if the 49ers will add defense it will be to the secondary first probably. This very deep LB draft can land them a solid LB in round 3, same can be said about the TE's but their is no standouts like Vernon Davis. He is an absolute freak and Hawk doesnt have nearly the potential he has.
Well see....Last I was reading is that both you and the Raiders are completly in love with A.J. Hawk and that whoever would pick first (The 49ers) would get Hawk unless the Raiders try trading up for Hawk.

I think the 49ers have much more pressing needs then TE.
