Don't we want to be Utah in this scenario though? Fleecing another team? (The Duncan Robinson trade is bad, I agree, just merely talking about assets in return for gobert)
Didn't say there was. Was just commenting on the photo of the 4 most likely players to be moved.....2 Raptors and 2 Blazers.
Pure hot gahhhhbidge. Funny how people in here want to add Bobby Douche in trades. And Duncan Robinson. Rather have Duncan Hines. Dame ain't going anywhere. Joe & his Staff are gonna bring it.
I know we're all just taking shots in the dark here but this is another trade involving FVV who insiders say is almost a lock to opt out of his contract that comes in at ~23M next season. These insiders say he could easily get a contract that would start at 30M. I mean, if we go forward with Dame we're probably going to give Grant that much and FVV has actually been an all star.
Joe has set this up (while trying not to completely paint himself into a corner for negotiation sake with a little spin) as a situation where if he can't get an all star and one role playing starter to start with Dame, Shae and Jerami while he bolsters the bench, he will look completely incompetent. I guess that depends on where the pick ends up but that's a statement I feel pretty comfortable with. Joe has also put the pressure on himself. I think he understands what he has in terms of assets and matching salaries along with what the market is like for the players he is going to go after. Honestly if Joe punts on Dame and just kicks the can with a youth rebuild, I feel like every franchise in the league and whoever owns this team in the future will know that the guy cannot get deals done when he needs to. I mean almost every GM with a superstar has a time when that star asks them to put up or shut up and has to come through. Joe can now make a simple deal with Chicago so he can trade up to 5 FRPs or gets Wemby and can have access to 4 FRPs and he has salary to match a supermax deal and a TPE that can get you a solid role player. I guess we'll see though.
I don't have a lot of confidence in Cronin, but I also don't have a lot of confidence in our assets netting us anything to fulfill the value requested, so like, what do?
I don't blame you or anyone else, he shows under contract on trade machines and with his name being thrown around in so many Toronto trade scenarios in this forum, I get it. I just don't think he will be trade eligible this off-season unless its in a S&T which means he's bringing even less value to the trade and would take a third team unless we planned on keeping him.
Dude says that he wants to win, compete and isn't down with a rebuild/getting players who are two to three years away and the national media goes crazy talking about how if the Blazers can't build a super team around him, that he's demanded a trade. I don't know how many times Dame can politely tell the national media that both they don't know that the fuck they're talking about when it comes to him and that he doesn't give a fuck what they want for him. The guy has his own goals, I think he has made those goals clear to the team and while it may be an ill fated attempt I expect the team to do the best they can to get Dame closer to those goals here... in a way that Dame will be cool with.
wait...do you really think Toronto would trade both OG and Barnes for Dame? They'd almost certainly have to add Boucher as well. That would leave them with Siakam and Dame...and Poeltl. Fred Van Vleet would definitely leave too. They wouldn't be any better than they were this season, just a lot older, and probably worse. Why the hell would the Raptors do that?
you don't understand the equations Barnes is an average player...unless he's a main part of the rationalization for trading Dame. In that case Barnes has the near certain upside of a perennial all-star
