?

What are you hoping for with this pick?

  1. Draft Scoot and keep him

    27.6%
  2. Draft Miller and keep him

    28.6%
  3. Draft someone else at 3 and keep him (please specify)

    3.1%
  4. Trade down, but still draft in the lottery

    10.2%
  5. Trade the pick for a starting forward

    30.6%

And if Schmitz and co decide to keep a pick, I've got no doubts he'll come around on said player(s)

I think the difficulty when looking at trading the pick is finding someone worthy of pick #3 to trade it for. And there's not many, IMO. Most guys either fall in the far too good for 3 area, or aren't good enough for 3. What I could see happening is a number of trades made to attempt to stack the roster. This has maybe already been discussed here or elsewhere. But can see something like Simons and 3 to Orlando for 6,11, Denver '25, and like Wendell Carter. Or Cole Anthony instead of the '25 pick. Then 6 to Toronto for OG and 13. Nurk and 13 to Chicago for Derozan and our pick returned. Maybe it's then 11 and Carter to Brooklyn for Claxton, 21 and 22.

    Dame/Anthony
    Derozan/Sharpe
    OG/Thybulle
    Grant/Walker
    Claxton/Watford

With picks 21, 22 and 23. Ideally we keep at least 1 for cheap youth to continue to build with, maybe 2. Then look to trade one or 2 for better depth pieces, maybe instead of Cole Anthony, or a better backup big man that can play the 4/5?
Anunoby's only 26. Claxton is 24. Sharpe is only 20. So while you're committing to "going all in", you still have talented young pieces that will all be roughly hitting their prime when Dame falls out of his, so you didn't completely mortgage your future for the present. You have great defenders in OG, Thybulle and Claxton. Good defender in Grant. Decent in Derozan. switchability on the wings. Lots of length. And hopefully Schmitz works some magic with the late picks so as the old guys exit, those pieces take their place.

And then when Scoot or someone else we could have picked at 3 becomes a star, we will once again feel like shit.

Bunch of eeyore's in here anyways. Fuck 'em. That's easily a HCA team, IMO. Potentially fighting for #1 seed. The 15th pick is probably going to turn in to the star of the draft, and half this board will be bitching because we should have taken whoever that ends up being at 3.

Yeah that new roster has Olshey treading water mediocrity written all over it still.

I don’t feel that way. I don’t think that team is that great. DeRozan is overrated.

You have 4 starters capable of scoring 20 on any given night, as well as a 6th man capable of the same, so offense is no issue at all with that team. You have 2 elite wing defenders in Thybulle and OG, and a close to elite defender at C in Claxton, making your defense likely top 10 as well. I fail to see how that's an Olshey special or treadmill team. Scoot Henderson can't shoot for shit. Everyone says oh, once they fix a jumper, blah blah about so many prospects, but generally...those guys don't fix their jumper. How excited was Philly jumping to #1 to get Markelle Fultz? New dynasty incoming! Couldn't shoot for shit. And now he's a mediocre guard who'll likely be on his 3rd team next year or the year after already.
It's really simple to sit back and project that each draftee is going to hit on their sky high potential, and say our team X number of years from now with whoever and Sharpe is gonna be dominating things. But it's a lot more realistic to look at recent drafts and see how many guys many in here would likely have sold the farm(Dame) to draft are shit. Just going back a decade or so and looking at the top 10, and it's littered with garbage, and guys already out of the league. I don't think that'l be Scoot. But I don't think Scoot and Sharpe somehow puts us on a title track quicker than the pie in the sky roster I pout together.

Can a supermax player be traded for only draft picks? My understanding is the other team needs to send us player/s plus picks for Dame. Maybe it's possible, I just haven't seen a recent example

It’s not that it’s necessarily an Olshey special. It’s that I don’t think the team has a legit second star. I don’t think that team could win a chip and I’m personally going to be opposed to dealing the 3rd pick if we don’t have a real shot at a title.

Embiid for all my concerns would give us a legit shot. That move would be worth the risk.

Brown might be worth the risk. He’s not really wowing me against Miami.

I just don’t put DeRozan on the same level as even Brown or Siakam. And I’m not in love with Siakam, but I think he would give us a better chance than DeRozan.

an example of what I'm talking about could be Ben Simmons (injured w/a massive deal) + draft capitol. What I'm saying is that the value back I'd be seeking could in the picks & not so much in the players.

    Dame
    Mikal Bridges
    Cam Johnson
    Dorian Finney Smith
    Nic Claxton

That'll be their starting unit and now we have all their picks.

What I'm trying to say is it wont be easy to find a trade partner for Dame where Dame is happy, his new team is legit contender and Blazers get paid fairly

so let me get this straight...

    * Blazers send out #3 + Nurkic + Little for #13 + OG + Capela. Verdict: Blazers lose a 3rd pick and don't gain anybody close to being an all-star. Vote no because the Blazers are back to treading water after expending the best pick they've had since 2007....16 years ago

    * Rockets send out a #4 pick and somefucking how get back a #3 + Nurkic. Verdict: WTF?

    * Raptors send out OG and get back a #4 pick and Little. Verdict: fuck the Raptors. They are overvaluing they're players to a ridiculous level and shouldn't be rewarded for it

with as much as he makes, it's obvious that any move would have to be on the bigger side. Putting a team's present over the top by adding Lillard for gutting their future is what I'd seek if I were Joe looking to move him. Win win all around
