?

What are you hoping for with this pick?

  1. Draft Scoot and keep him

    27.6%
  2. Draft Miller and keep him

    28.6%
  3. Draft someone else at 3 and keep him (please specify)

    3.1%
  4. Trade down, but still draft in the lottery

    10.2%
  5. Trade the pick for a starting forward

    30.6%

Since Portland is not expected by most, here, to complete a trade for another #1 guy to go with Dame, then it’s unlikely that the incoming trade dude will make Portland a contender on his own. Other moves will be necessary … that’s looking at Nurkic. And a back-up PG if Ant is gone. And some rebounding help from a back-up PF or PF/C.

Jaylen Brown (Go Miami!) > Bridges (Go Dame and Mikal and his agent!) > Siakam (Most Expensive Raptor and a UFA in a Year!) > DDR (Go Dame!) > OG (Optimg out in a year after FVV and GTJr try to get theirs, now). (And if it’s Jaylen Brown, Payton Pritchard better be a toss-in!)

If it takes Ant, 3 and 2 first rounders for the best, okay. No trading Sharpe unless it’s Embiid.

Would need to go after Bruce Brown with the MLE to take the pressure of Sharpe and potentially start as that lockdown POA defender.

I think Ant + 3 is enough for JB. Thing is that team needs a good bench to contend, and that's where Cronin would really earn his payday.

I want no part of Brown unless he extends in sign and trade. No way we can make that trade for a one year rental

All true, though heavier is being kind. Whitmore looks like he's carrying bad weight to my eyes. While we've all got different body types, compared to Reddish he measured 3/4" shorter and 27 pounds heavier with a lot less length too... not much in common with CR. They didn't list body fat % in this combine... if I was a GM kicking tires I would want to know whats what with that.

I think PP would be a great addition to the roster. He will help, although only a small amount, with attendance. He is very underrated. I know he would like to come home to play so he should be easy to re-sign. He'll give smart, solid, high effort minutes every night and he won't cost a ton. Boston has barely used him with the additions of White and Brogdon, but he's played well when on the court.
I remember reading that a very good vet PG (I can't remember who) was asked who is the most underrated PG in the league and without hesitating he said PP. I'll try to find the quote.

I like this kind of trade:

The Miami Heat completed a four-team trade that allows them to sign All-Star guard Jimmy Butler to a four-year, $142 million contract, league sources told ESPN on Monday.

The Heat are sending center Hassan Whiteside to the Portland Trail Blazers, guard Josh Richardson to the Philadelphia 76ers and a protected 2023 first-round pick to the Los Angeles Clippers to secure the salary-cap flexibility to complete the sign-and-trade deal with the 76ers, league sources tell ESPN.

While this isn’t splashy, it gets an upgrade at center (IMHO), a 3&D SF with size, 11 (Gradey Dick) and BPA at 13. I wouldn’t be yelling shenanigans. [I’m a Gradey Dick fan. In a re-draft in 5 years, he goes higher.]

Contender? I don’t know. But good? Yup.

Dame has been the 3rd seed twice and never been on a contender. Having a ceiling of 5th in the west with a bunch of old capped out veterans is a dumb way to try and win a title.

Yes the #3 pick could be a bust. But if it hits the upside is much much higher than a 30year old 200 million Siakam. Plus you'd also have that extea salary slot for another starter. The 3rd picks are All-stars more often than not, so it's not some rare unlikely chance.

He doesn't look like that extra weight affects his abilities much.

Had a 40.5” vertical at the combine.

Respect your opinion and understand your point on cap. I’ve flip flopped so many times I want to keep the pick but also think getting a player of Siakam’s ability would make us a very very good team. When I say top 5 doesn’t mean they are limited to 5. Dame, Siakam, Grant, Sharpe and Nurk is the best team we’ve had in last ten years including better than the team that went to WCF. It also matches up really well with any team in west. Add couple of vets to bench and I’d be happy. That said I’d also be happy to keep the pick (I’m a flip flooper). If we trade the pick I just want at a minimum Siakam or better player.

If Scoot goes 2 why trade the pick for a SF when Miller is a SF on a rookie deal? The kid doesn’t suck and has as much upside as a Bridges or Brown.

I disagree. I think it’s unlikely that Miller ends up being as good as those two.

Charlotte drafted a very-gifted-at-passing point guard with the 3rd pick in the 2020 draft, LaMelo Ball. From what I have read and seen, Charlotte wants to build around LaMelo.
Scoot could work with LaMelo, but Miller is a better fit.

I agree that he has as much upside, and has a chance to become a better player (IMO) than either.

    There are 2 issues.

First is one of timing. IF Miller develops into a player the caliber of Bridges/Brown - it will miss Dame's likely peak

Second is there are no guarantees that he becomes as good or better. I THINK he will, but would only give it a 50/50 chance. It may be better to take the known quantity of Bridges//Brown

    Well said.

Draft success is more than predicting how high someones ceiling and potential is.

Same reason I would consider a trade for Franz. Only 1 year older but has two years of NBA experience to evaluate. And we would not have to give any other assets to get him. (assuming Orlando likes someone at 3)
