We got the #3 pick. Discuss the possibilities.

?

What are you hoping for with this pick?

  1. Draft Scoot and keep him

    27.6%
  2. Draft Miller and keep him

    28.6%
  3. Draft someone else at 3 and keep him (please specify)

    3.1%
  4. Trade down, but still draft in the lottery

    10.2%
  5. Trade the pick for a starting forward

    30.6%

What you just described is a multi-year process...

Not very different than the multi-year process of waiting for a couple of top picks to develop into meaningful players...

That's part of why I said that if I were GM and Dame requested a trade, unless I got a knock-my-socks-off offer, I'd consider refusing it and tell him to lace em up.

Hmm what does SA have that we want? I don't see much. Keldon Johnson is not as good as advertised.

    In 2012-13, we were 33-49
Then we added RoLo, Mo, and Trob
In 2013-14, we started 24-5 (best in NBA) and finished 54-28.

A couple little tweaks to a roster can make a huge difference if they’re the right tweaks. Same with adding Curry/Kanter/Hood and going from swept in first round to WCF

Start with their unprotected 1R pick next year.

Sure but the main target needs to be a current NBA player. Otherwise, we might as well gamble on keeping #3 because Pop won't tank again without a pick.
They could add a couple of vets to contend for the play in game and we would be screwed.

I think what we’re aiming for is what the Celtics did in 2007. Trade top 5 pick for Ray Allen. Trade young promising talent (Big Al) for KG. All while keeping their aging franchise player (Pierce). Then they fleshed out roster with Posey, PJ Brown, etc.

I meant to be kidding with that. After I posted it, I was going to add "All Tim Duncan accomplished."

There's nothing on their current roster that would be worth trading this pick to them with the possible aside of the Blazers being confirmed to get the big European C expected to go first next year, and even that might not be enough.

The equivalent would be the Blazers acquiring two of Embiid, Bridges, Brown, or Siakam. Would probably have to send out all 3 of #3, Ant, Sharpe, plus possibly additional unprotected picks.

I like that more than just sending out #3 for Siakam, which doesn't make much sense when we're keeping Sharpe and can't immediately contend.

But sending out all that youth has a heck of a lot of risk long term.

Not interested in helping the Spurs start their next dynasty.

They could package 100 picks with any combo of their putrid roster and it’s still a no.

Yeah if it's pick 8 or something maybe you do it for multiple future firsts.

But not a top3 pick when there's three #1 pick level talents.

Just for discussion purposes, at one point some have liked both SF: Keldon Johnson and PF: Jeremy Sochan
And we have also had discussions about Scoots limitations. So could it be a smart move for the future? We still would have everyone else on the roster to trade or keep.

Ant had the 2nd highest salary and played 2nd most minutes, but, among constant and often rotation players, he was:

    8th in offensive rating
    12th in defensive rating
5th in PER (cumulative connection to total minutes)
    8th in TS%
    9th in FT Rate
    13th in rebound rate
    3rd in assist rate
    13th in steal rate
6th in winshares (being 2nd in usage & minutes but 6th in winshares is not good)
    9th in winshares/48
    13th in DBPM
    7th in BPM
6th in Value Over Replacement (cumulative stats dependent on minutes)

Ant brings to the table good perimeter shooting, decent handles, and at best, average court vision. He offsets that with quite a bit of tunnel vision and ball dominance, and absolutely terrible defense. What he adds in offense is more than offset by what he subtracts in defense. If he's not hitting his shots he's not providing much of anything else. Net negative.

meaning: Ant is quite replaceable, maybe just with a better fit. Maybe just with Sharpe. It wouldn't take much to replace what Ant provides, except for maybe the occasional high-volume hot streak in games. But simple consistent good defense would replace that over a season

Ha, no I was thinking more of Ant (and #3) for a 22-year-old long forward who can score and play D.

Can anyone dumb down which picks the Blazers got from the GP2 trade? I read what basketballreference said, but it's greek to me.

I think we only have 2 of them left. One of the 2nd rounders I heard was not likely to convey and two were sent for Thybulle.

It looks like Houston is done with their rebuild and is trying to win now. So that makes them a possible destination for a potential Dame trade, they sure have many young players and a lot of picks to trade

This is a better resource for picks:
    https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed
    and
    https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/team

    Atlanta '23
Atlanta '24 - (Portland already had partial control of the pick with protections - Atlanta removed all protections now)
Atlanta '25 - (Portland only gets it if Atlanta's pick is 31-40 - otherwise it goes to OKC.)
Memphis '26 - (Portland only gets it if Memphis' pick is 43-60 - otherwise it goes to Utah.)
    GSW '28

The Hart trade, Portland gave up
'27 - Better of NOP and POR will go to CHA. The worst of the two will go to POR.
Portland '29 - Goes to PHI
