Merging threads should only occur when the OP is on the same topic, say, the same article, news, or tweet. Merging tangentially related topics or posting multiple tangentially related news items into a single long-ass thread with multiple new pages of posts a day to wade through buries the lead.
No, my understanding is this dude @Bingo Bango made this thread instead of a real one about the CJ interview.
See my post below yours. Black hole multi-topic megathreads have become the norm, perhaps in part because people often get flamed for starting new threads.
I agree a clean CJ thread would have been my preference. But then, it is very likely he would have been bombed with the "that's already being discussed in other threads" attack. So, maybe he went for a pre-emptive strike.
Maybe but Mods don't merge shit because people like me whine a little in a thread about it being redundant unless it is completely redundant (let's say there were two threads about CJ's interview). Some want to be able to look in one thread to find out all of the pertinent info on a subject and some want it broken up into threads that contain small portions of that. Some of us can complain that we think the thread about the small portions wasn't necessary but that doesn't mean they should be merged.
I just went through 2 months of the forum logs. In that time only one Blazer thread has been merged. The main thing staff does around here is delete personal insults. Merging happens if more than one person makes the same thread at pretty much the same time in a Breaking News event or if the same person is making the same themed thread over and over. For example, if Dame is traded I'm willing to bet that in the rush to post that on here more than one thread will be made. It's not a big deal, no one did anything wrong, but those will get merged into one thread. But... If an individual every couple of days keeps making the same thread about how Dame sucks and needs to be traded then we will eventually merge those multiple threads by the same person into one thread. People complaining about things is one of the main functions of a forum and the internet. Don't let it get to you.
Given a choice...I would rather look for a post (try the search function), than endure those folks who feel like everything that falls out of their mental ass needs to be it's own thread. Especially when they are trying to ram home the same point that they feel the rest of the world needs to agree with them about. CJ? Got very well paid by the Blazers. I'm over him.
CJ said if he was a betting man, then said he wasn't. He was speculating. The Blazers have choices. They can keep Dame and either trade or keep the pick. They can trade the pick for a star or for more picks. They can decide to go young. The Blazers intend to keep Lillard and build around him. Lillard isn't going to ask out, even CJ said so. CJ added he just had dinner to give what he was saying further credence, like Dame must have told him something....spoiler Dame didn't tell him shit. CJ was just spouting off for Smith's whiny disrespectful ass. Anyone here has the right to make a thread about it. Does it deserve one though, probably not. CJ's interview was just trolling...we don't feed the trolls here. We take them out back.
Sorry, but that’s just stupid. CJ was Lillard’s running mate in the backcourt for many years, and a big part of this team. If he shares his opinion on Lillard’s future, it’s newsworthy. Period. You may not like him or his opinions, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s newsworthy and deserving of a thread.
Lock all threads after 200 posts. If it's still worthy of discussion a part2 thread will created. If not it'll die and can be replaced by a younger better looking thread. Except no limit on the Melo thread.
