What are you hoping for with this pick?

  1. Draft Scoot and keep him

    27.6%
  2. Draft Miller and keep him

    28.6%
  3. Draft someone else at 3 and keep him (please specify)

    3.1%
  4. Trade down, but still draft in the lottery

    10.2%
  5. Trade the pick for a starting forward

    30.6%

think i'm making up my mind on our workflow with the pick.

    1. Trade it with salary for the best player available (this considers contract, age, positional fit. Bridges/Siakam/Brown/KAT are just some names).

    if nothing manifests...

    2. Take Scoot if Charlotte takes Miller and trade Ant for a wing.

if we're left with Miller et al...

    3. Trade down for multiple assets and thread the needle to get an above average starter and clear up a runway for Sharpe while also getting an asset to use on a young guy. Get 6 + 11 or 4 + 20 + etc, and move secondary asset for vet who fits, while keeping the other pick for us.

This is my best guess, likely they'll combine the secondary asset attained with #23 and/or a salary to attain the vet. There will be some impact players available after the 3rd pick... I see value there

I don't think Scoot will be there for Portland at 3.

I wouldn't mind just drafting Brandon Miller and using Nurk/Simons/picks/free agency to get some immediate help.

I would do Nurk + Little for Ayton since Miller is on a rookie contract for some time. I would be willing to give up Miller and change for Mikael Bridges but I'm not fond of the other options.

This looks good for a starting 5...

    Dame
    Sharpe
    Grant
    Miller
    Ayton

Maybe you start Bruce Brown after you get him in FA and bring Miller off the bench.

I guess it depends what you mean by good idea.

If the plan is to try and win a title next year yeah it's bad.

But if the team thinks they don't have good offers for either Dame/Scoot in trades and want to see how those players develop with Sharpe and what trades later become available if could be the best path to take.

    Draft scoot.
Trade Ant for OG. Maybe get a pick back.
Pick up a backup big with the mle.
Go into next year and see what is missing.
I think Dame remains if we do that and knows we will try to find the missing pieces by next trade deadline.

We won't get a pick back with OG for Ant, but the general idea might be where the teams is headed.

Keep on seeing rumors of Indy wanting a SF upgrade and their interest in Miller.

What do we want from them besides 7 to get them to 3?

I always liked Durate but he is not big enough for our needs.

To me, 3 to 7 is a pretty huge drop in this draft, so it would have to be a significant asset to warrant it. I know Mathurin would be an unreasonable ask, but that's where I'd start. After that, I could maybe see Duarte, 7, 26, and their 2024 #1.

    How about this?

    To IND:
    #3
    Nurk

    To POR:
    #29
    Turner
    Siakam

    To TOR:
    #7, #26
    Simons
    Little
    Keon

    Dame
    Sharpe
    Grant
    Siakam
    Turner

I dont think theres a big difference between Turner and Nurk but I know we've been linked to Myles in the past. And his contract for the next two years is fairly reasonable.

Seems fair for all teams. I like it. Assuming Siakam agrees to resign

A Nurk/Turner swap was the other thing I had thought about.

Given what we've heard publicly, I am not sure Indy or Toronto would do that (though it seems fair enough to me). I, like you, think the "Turner is a major upgrade over Nurk" is far exaggerated and speaks to the power in the "idea of Turner" rather than his actual impact on winning basketball. Would I take Turner over Nurk in a vacuum? I suppose so, but I genuinely still believe that a healthy and motivated Nurk offers more positive impact than Turner. That said, we've being seeing that version of Nurk less and less frequently.

Regardless, I would need the significant incentive (much like you've suggested here), to entertain any Nurk+#3 for Turner+#7 framework.

Unless I'm reading these numbers wrong...

    It still all equates to:

    %FGMUnassisted: 68.5% Dame
    %FGMUnassisted: 63.5% Scoot

Seems like they're both pretty ball dominant when it comes to scoring, no?

The key numbers are percentage of assisted 2 pointers. It’s easy to have assisted three pointers because of catch and shoot situations.

81% of Scoots attempts are 2 pointers compared to only 45% for Dame. But the key is that Scoot is assisted on 35% of those attempts while Dame is only assisted on 15%. This means that Scoot moves without the ball because how are you going to be assisted on 35% of your 2 pointers if you’re standing around? It’s not like posting up on the three point line and waiting for the ball.
