?

What will Portland do on or leading up to Draft night?

  1. Keep all 3 picks

  2. Trade #3 along with a player for a 'veteran'

  3. Trade #23 along with a player for an upgrade

  4. Acquire additional picks

Typically, trades don't happen during the NBA Finals and certainly not by the team(s) playing in the Finals, but the Denver Nuggets did just that getting a 1st round pick next year along with 2nd round pick this year and a 2nd round pick next year for a future 1st.

The Thunder have 4 1st round picks next year so giving up the worst of those isn't a big deal as they won't have room for all of them anyhow. This pushes an asset down the road for them when they won't have as many picks, and Denver picks up an asset to use while they are in their championship window.

There has been a LOT of chatter about the number of teams who might be willing to move their pick.

Charlotte - #2 - although that seems to have died down a bit
    Portland - #3/23 - #3 for the right price? #23 + player to get a vet?
Houston - #4/20 - wants to move up
Detroit - #5 would like to move up
Orlando - #6/11 - don't want more rookies and want to grow into a Playoff push
    Pacers - #7/26/29 - likely won't use them all
Jazz - #9/16/28 - may use them all as they are building, but 3 1st is a lot to add in one year
Mavs - #10 - might use it in a S&T for with Kyrie for Ayton
Nets - #21/22 - the endless Dame chatter

Some pundits think this could be a very active trading session leading up to Draft night and after July 1st.

    Let the frenzy begin!!!

I honestly don’t know. I can’t get a read on what we are gonna do.

I hope we trade 23 to Chicago so we can be done with that bullshit. But if I’m Chicago I say no. If they hold out they could get a better pick.

    Good post.
Sooo many options. This is in part why i think Cronin will be able to make the moves to keep the three and jeep Dame here.
We have both types of assets. Not alot but we can go many ways with what we have. I think this gives Cronin negotiating power. Some think he is locked into a course due to Dames public comments and it weakens the negotiations but i think its a drop in the bucket compared to the negotiations power he has when thinking about either direction.
The optimal outcome is to draft at three, move ant, nurk& 23 for upgrades that pushes us closer to contender as our rookies develop and in two years we might just pop. But if we dont, we still have a solid young core to move forward with.
Some people are down with straddling the fence, but i think that is exactly what we need to do. We just need to do it smart. Smarter than in years past!

hmmmm...Dame & Cronin successfully playing a Machiavellian game of 4D chess confusing and confounding the entire world?

(no, I'm not saying you're the world Nate, relax)

Curious to know who Detroit and Houston would like to move up for.

Detroit seems pretty clear-cut for Miller (They have Cade and Jaden).

Houston could be interesting depending on the Harden situation.

I think I have made it clear that I think Dame is pretty set on what he wants. It’s harder to get a read on Joe and the team. They might not even know what they want. They might not know until we are officially on the clock.

I think there is a 90% chance that the pick is traded.

I think there is a 0% chance we keep the pick if it's Scoot.

I think there is a 10% chance we keep the pick if it's Miller.

I also think there is about a 99% chance that if we DO draft Scoot, Dame is gone.

HOU would also like Scoot and would move on from KPJ.

Do you think DET would be willing to trade Duren and #3 for Miller and #23? Obviously Duren is the most promising of their three bigs, but I’m not sure if they like the other two bigs enough to secure their future 1-3 in this class to roll with Wiseman and Bagley. If they are, I think it’s a no brainer.

I’m not totally convinced the Rockets would take Amen. Harden is so ball dominant that I have a hard time believing their FO would think pairing Amen with Harden and Green. They may go with Whitmore due to fit.

I can't understand this boards obsession with Duren. He is just young Drummond, and I doubt he will ever be able to switch. He is a drop-coverage big.

there's a few rumorists in town that want to improve Portland by trading picks and Nurkic for Christian Wood.

I hope Dallas doesn't slap Cronin around to get a deal like this to go through.

I went with acquire additional picks. Reason being there are so many top 10 picks reportedly available. I can see Ant going to Orlando for 6. Six, 11 and Grant +? would be better. Possibly Houstons 4/20 + for 3. I just can't see Ant coming back really. He and Dame are a horrible combo. All the targets mentioned as difference makers are either not available, are too expensive or are not actually difference makers. And yes, this would lead Dame to have a different conversation with Portland management. I would not have the 3 in play with Chicago for either of their players available, nor would I make it available to Toronto for OG or Siakam. They are free agents to be. You give up the 23 in a gamble one would resign with no guarantee. And that is what it is, no guarantee. They can not make hand shake deals. If Portland goes all in, and fails, everyone will be a rat trying to jump off the sinking ship.

I don’t know whether or not he’ll be good enough to switch consistently like Bam or Dray, but I think he’s athletic enough that it’s not crazy for someone to bet on it becoming a reality. Other things to like about him are that he’s younger than Sharpe and has a grown man body already with good instincts on defense and is a consistent lob target. He’s been in the league for one year, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen more chase down blocks from a C ever. There are a lot of things to like about him.

With Nurk still on the team, Duren isn’t in any more of a hurry to start than Shae. I’d want to find a way to trade for DFS, but having a Thompson, Shae, Duren, and Watford on the bench is such an exciting young bench, with multiple guys that can start as soon as you can decide where to make an upgrade at a starting position. Ausar, Sharpe, and Duren make for a potentially lockdown starting lineup in 3 year’s time.

If there's a 0% chance that we draft Scoot, why did you put that last sentence in?

I have no idea what the team will do. I fear it will trade the #3 pick for a veteran, but I hope we keep both of our first rounders as I think we can get a solid prospect at #23 in addition to a future stud at #3.

Because that's the reason there's a 0% chance we draft Scoot, but in reality, it's probably a 0.01% chance but that's not as sexy as saying "0%".

I agree that there is a good chance that a "future" talent (2 years away) will be there at 23 so hopefully it is not moved just so we get our pick from Chicago back. This makes moving #3 an easier pill to swallow IF we end up trading it. Much like last year (Sharpe and Grant) I like getting a player who can help now and one that might need a little time to develop. Of course, we need to get someone better than Grant if we did trade #3

But my first choice would be #3 for Wagner and #6
