besides that, if Ainge is desperate to move up, why stop at #3 when he can get to #2? They have 9 + 16 + 28 in this draft plus 16 first round draft picks in the following 7 years. That will probably be a lot more persuasive to Charlotte than Portland

It means we have to swap our lottery picks for their 28th picks in 3 drafts. Seems fair

 

well, Philly doesn't have any 1st's to trade till 2030. They only have swaps till 2030, but after the draft they could send their unprotected 2030 first. But of course, being assholes, they didn't include that. They also don't have any swaps to trade in in 2026 & 2028. Those picks are already encumbered. So the swaps would be continent, at best, and very well might not convey

in reality the trade is Dame for Maxey, Harris, and a 2024 swap

Is Markkanen worth the 3rd pick in this year’s draft?

 

It's a pretty easy no for me.

He made a massive jump last year, but I still think there's some playoff viability concerns.

If we had a longer track record than one year at that level of play, I'd maybe feel a little different.

 

Especially if we had Scoot.

 

I love it when people propose BS trades and then close with ‘I’m not even sure if I like this…’ let’s not be disingenuous…

 

Simons + the pick might make a tank team too good to tank properly. I'd rather see that conundrum in Portland then a division rival like Utah.

 

We can differ on this, but Markkanen has been misused in Chicago & Cleveland. He came into his own in Utah. He was incredible. As far as playoff performance goes, your not good till you are. I have a feeling Markkanen would be unstoppable next to Dame.

None of these potential picks has done Jack Squat. But some in here are probably right that Ainge wouldn't want to trade the awesome Markkanen for one of these two sure fire , amazing, younger , future franchise talents in Miller and Scoot.

 

For Ainge to keep Markkanen over Scoot & Miller, they must be meh, OK , because Ainge is always right.
