I would draft Scoot if some pipe-dream trades of the 3rd pick didn't happen. And I would be nearly as excited. Drafting Scoot (in my mind) means one of Ant or Dame is gone which I think clears things well for the present and future.

Two things going on Charlotte most likely wants Miller buy if they can force us to trade up to guarantee to get Scoot (even if we trade him) then they could potentially get something out of the deal.

Most likely indicator of who Charlotte will take are the Vegas odds.

I like my chances that Whitmore, Miller, or Amen win a championship before Scoot.

PG is one of the least valuable positions in the current NBA. Way too easy to find good guards, so I won’t regret it. Could be wrong and literally every player I like more than him could bust (I think he’s 6 or 7 on my draft board), but wouldn’t regret it.

Same reason if Sharpe was a bust I wouldn’t have regretted going with him over some other more proven players.

If Dame is gone I want Amen.

But I guess this depends on how you feel about Scoot playing with Dame/Simons. If you think they can play together (and win) then I can kind of see it.

Personally, two short, no defense guards has proven to not be a winning formula for us, so not interested personally.

And personally I have 2-6 pretty much on the same tier, so size matters ;)

Some things in the universe are absolutes.

Michael Jordan drafting the wrong guy is one of them. I don't know what's stopping them from drafting Scoot and dealing him on their own terms and us being left with Miller/Amen?

What exactly isn't a short point guard these days?

It's crazy to me that 6'2 or 6'3 is considered short now. We used to have Damon, who was MAYBE 5'9. The NBA used to call anyone under 6'0 a short guard, but now people call Dame a short guard and he's almost 6'3 in shoes.

Dame isn't short to be playing in a back court with a guy who is at least 6'5" with a huge wingspan but he does start to look short when we continuously put him back there with guys his same size. Mighty Mouse started with JR Rider who was a big 6'5", Jimmy Jackson 6'6" and Steve Smith 6'8". There's nothing small about Scoot as a PG unless his SG is Ant or he's forced to play SG next to Dame.

Isiah was considered a short PG at 6'1, but to be fair, I didn't say "point guard".

"Personally, two short, no defense guards has proven to not be a winning formula for us, so not interested personally."

And I specifically said that because if you want your (in an ideal world) two best players playing together, it doesn't matter which one is the "point guard" and which is the "shooting" guard if they're both 6'2(ish). And then if you want to play them with Shaedon who is 6'5 or whatever, you're undersized at 3 positions, and it just feels like we're about to repeat the whole 3-guard experiment.

Been watching some tape and scouting reports. His floor is Phoenix Suns Eric Bledsoe.

That's an interesting comparison. I never really thought of Bledsoe as a distributor and Scoot has a lot of hype about his playmaking ability.

So just looking up some different data points on Eric Bledsoe.

    upload_2023-6-14_16-6-17.png

So he's shorter than Scoot. His wingspan is about 1.5" shorter than Scoot. So physically I think Scoot is more imposing than Bledsoe.

Looking at his shooting stats, Bledsoe was not a good three point shooter at first. He did get his averages up though.

I think Scoot could be a better passer though.

    Floor.

Bledsoe was a decent passer in his prime. His bread and butter was imposing himself at the basket because of his frame. Dude was built like a bull. Scoot has the same type of build and the ability to impose his will at the rim. But he's also way more athletic, better fist step, better vertical, better everything athletically.

That's why I say Bledsoe is his floor. If Scoot never figures it out, he's still a damn good player because of what he can do already.

We've got no idea what Scoot's actual measurements are.

Bledsoe shot 38% from 3 in college, 51% from 2 and 46% overall... all superior numbers to Scoot. Scoot is a better free-throw shooter.

Bledsoe is also a much, much better defender.

Scoot probably is a better playmaker and probably sees the game better than Bledsoe did.

And Bledsoe was actually a pretty good player when he was healthy, so it's not an entirely bad comp IMO

Scoot was playing on an exhibition team and when he had his biggest exhibition against a real team with the number one pick in the draft he showed up and showed out with 25 points, 9 assists, five boards and two steals in a win. The dude is legit and if we didn't have so much invested into Dame the cold and logical thing to do would be to move Dame and Ant and draft Scoot if he's there at three. The dude is a freak and according to a lot of reports is extremely competitive with a great attitude.

I actually really like Scoot, I just don’t think he’s “that guy”. And I’ve said it before, but I don’t think Dame is a #1 on a championship team because of his size unless that team is overwhelmingly stacked.

That's fair. I'm hoping that we can trade Scoot for Zion who would be 1a and make Dame 1b if Zion can be healthy.
