(For the purposes of this exercise as we head to draft day, we assume no trades will be made/the draft order is set and we assume we're a fan of the selecting team.) Previous picks: Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio) Scoot Henderson (Charlotte) Brandon Miller (Portland) Amen Thompson (Houston) Cam Whitmore (Detroit) Ausar Thompson (Orlando) Jerace Walker (Indiana) Taylor Hendricks (Washington) Anthony Black (Utah) Gradey Dick (Dallas) Bilal Coulibaly (Orlando) Derek Lively (OKC) Cason Wallace (Toronto) Nick Smith (New Orleans) Who do you think Atlanta should take? Tomorrow afternoon I'll set up another poll with the results factored in.
I voted Leonard Miller because he is the highest upside player on the board in my view, but I'll admit that this is a tricky one for me. They don't have any obvious major holes, but yet... this team REALLY isn't very good, and they are fully caught in no-man's land with an increasingly expensive roster and an unsettled relationship with their star player. Count Atlanta as another team that falls into the "I'd rather be the Blazers than that team" category.
I think it really depends if Trae Young is truly part of their future plans. If they think he is, I don't see a reason to draft someone who plays essentially the same way and/or position. Going with that scenario I say picking at 15 the best player for them would be Leonard Miller. Kind of raw, but has good length and if gets stronger could really help their front line. If they do pick a guard, Hood-Schifino probably the best bet for them. To go with the point of the thread though, I think they will take a guard and it will be the above mentioned Hood-Schifino.
