Lots of talk right now about New Orleans seriously considering a trade that would send out Zion for Scoot. Assuming that Scoot is there at 3, which is a big if right now. Would you trade for Zion?

He's making $33.5 million next year and he's locked up for 5 years.

In four years he has played in a grand total of 114 games.

In one of the videos they say that #3 and Ant is too much value for Zion straight across.

Would you do a trade that sends out Ant and #3 and brings back Zion?

I would if he passes a thorough physical.

Also, I’d look to expand the deal to also land Herb Jones.

Herb would be insurance if Zion is out for any extended period of time.

I would trade for Zion. I don't think Ant fits that roster and I think the idea should be pick 3 for Zion and we get to get them the other players we want to get them. So using a third team to move Ant to and getting what that team wants to give up and sending expiring contracts to NOLA.

Don't we have enough guys in street clothes on the bench each year? Not sure why we need another one unless Nurk needs another bench buddy.

The space Zion needs to operate, I don't think we'd be keeping Nurk anyway. Listening to the Pels beat reporter, Zion is healthy right now, not in shape but healthy as he has been when he's been dominant. If he has Dame in his ear, the dude could become an all time great.

Injury history has to be baked into Zion’s value.

Which is why you have to ask for Herb as well.

With our luck Zion would probably tear both his ACLs stepping off the plane.

Agreed. Zion has played less than 50% of his games, so that has to be calculated in his value. So Herb Jones or Trey Murphy need to be included because you are only getting 1/2 a player (albeit a way overweight half of a player) who is constantly hurt when he is in his early 20s and should be healing faster than at any other time of his life.

The problem is, Portland has to send back Ant+ to make the money work. So with the #3 AND Ant, NOP has to include Zion and at least Murphy or Jones and likely their #14 and a future pick. Portland can throw in Know and Keon for some added cap balance. And I'm still very hesitant of that deal. That is a LOT to give up for such a risk.

Yes I'd take him but I'd pressure NOLA to include Herb Jones since Zion has flags all over his medical history, doesn't work out much and doesn't get enough sleep. You'd be banking on Chauncey, Rogers and Dame to get in his grill and get him to earn a check...my fear about him is that he's a football player trying to play basketball...the upside is he's going to be a superstar if he applies himself...he's younger than Ant at 22. Portland is a great place to focus on basketball. Talent wise he's the best name paired with our pick so far...Maturity wise, it's a risk but probably one worth taking a swing at.

so Portland traded McCollum and Nance for Josh Hart and a draft pick. The draft pick didn't pan out because the GM wrote in a stipulation that the Pelicans keep the pick if they make the playoffs.... They made the playoffs.

OK, start over... Portland traded McCollum and Nance for Josh Hart, a trade exception, and cleared cap space which allowed the Blazers to sign multiple players including Jerami Grant. Yaaaaaay!

Blazers then traded Josh Hart to get the pick back they lost during the CJ/Nance trade? whatever, water under the bridge

Now the Blazers are tooling around with the idea to trade a spendorous #3 draft choice to the Pelicans... for a highly paid tubby Forward that is always injured and is destroying NOLA's cap space ??

    Quit helping the Pelicans !!

Zion is a top 5 player in the league when healthy. A new situation with Chauncey and Dame teaching how to be a professional and if we cater the rest of the roster around what Zion and Dame can bring, we will have a championship contending team.

If it weren’t for all the question marks and red flags, there would be ZERO chance to ever trade for a player of Zion’s caliber. He has MVP potential already at 22 years old. I think it’s a gamble you have to take because he is one of the very few options in the league that would work for both Dame window and Sharpe window. It’s a win win if it works out… making Blazers a true contender now, without sacrificing the future.

I’m sure CJ and Dame have talked about what kind of work ethic Zion has, which means if we do/don’t trade for him it’s probably an informed decision.

Much better chance of a massive overpay for Bridges/Claxton (Multiple 1s) than trading for Zion.

Dyson Daniels was #2 on our board when we picked Sharpe last year. Wouldn't be surprised if we tried to work him into the deal as well (maybe I'm just getting greedy :D)

Have you ever seen Chauncey coach?? Billups runs his guys into the ground. Zion would have no chance keeping up with Billups "system". Winslow tried his best, played 29 straight games until his ankle gave out. Starters are out there playing ~40m a night in B2B road games.

I know, i know... look at the Blazers bench, it's not Chauncey's fault he had to wear out the starters.

Coach Billups had the worst roster management of any Blazers coach I've ever seen. A young & inexperienced bench had nothing to do with giving starters more rest. The younger bench guys looked perfectly able and capable of playing NBA basketball when it was super tank time. I think Coach Billups became obsessed with winning, and didn't give overusage a 2nd thought.

Playing Zion 40m a night on 6 game road trips during b2b scheduling is asking for a disaster. But I suppose Coach Billups could continue saying injuries keep the Blazers from winning more consistently?

You wouldn't play Zion 40 minutes a night but if you got him to take care of himself physically then you could play him around 32 and he would be dominant. The other thing is if you re-sign Jeremi, you have a guy that can take minutes at PF.
