If you are taking the "Zion leap," what about a three way including Orlando? Here's a rough outline:

    Orlando receives: Simons and #23
NOP receives: #3, Little, salary flotsam from Magic (Harris?)
Portland receives: Zion and #6, perhaps additional sweetener from NOP?

I'd love Herb, #14 pick, etc. as well, but that might be a bridge too far for the Pelicans.

Even if Zion is injured half the time in Portland he still will have a high trade value.

    You make that trade!

Dame and Shaedon are healthy stars so we only need Zion to be healthy for 1 post season to probably win a championship.
    .
We would have him for 5 years

I'm a little confused on what NOP have planned in this scenario. If they take Scoot with the #3 they would then have CJ, Ant and Scoot while giving away arguably their best defender in Jones.
Am I missing something or is it right and then we would expect them to move CJ or Ant?

I'd consider it because if he was ever healthy we're almost immediate contenders.

I wish we could restructure his contract with a weight clause in it.

The guy is entirely way too big.

He needs weight management and game management.

seems pretty obvious they'd start seriously shopping CJ. If you spend much time on Pelicans forums the bloom is all the way off the CJ rose

I think we would want to trade Ant to a third team, likely Orlando. They can take on a lot of salary and we could get pick 6 or 11 and the Pels could get expiring contracts. I think even though they already have JV we might be able to get the Pels to take on Nurk or maybe Nurk goes to Orlando with Ant and we get back WCJ instead of the pick.

I'm really torn on this....except I'd probably say no unless more was coming to Portland. I'd hate to spend several year watching Zion watch the Blazers from his dinner table

    I'd be greedy...something like this:

    upload_2023-6-14_18-32-50.png

It would be great if Orlando wanted Simons enough to ship the 6th pick but that's probably asking too much

IF we trade for Zion it will finally settle the debate if we are cursed. If we aren’t a Zion/Sharpe combo at their age should mean contender for a decade.

I think my dream off season now is:

Outgoing: Ant, Nurk, pick 3 and 23... incoming Zion, WCJ and picks 21 and 22 (drafting GG Jackson and James Nnaji with those picks) also signing Jevon Carter with the TPMLE and re-signing both Jerami and Matisse. Drafting BPA at pick 43. Probably wouldn't pick up the options on Knox or Keon.

Magic gets Ant, Nurk and pick 23 from us and send WCJ and pick 11 to us and Gary Harris to the Pels

Pels get pick 3 and Gary Harris and send Zion to us.

Nets get pick 11 and send us picks 21 and 22. This would be a separate trade because they wouldn't need to be tied into the initial three team trade.

    Dame, Carter, Mays
    Shaedon, Matisse, Pick 43?
    Jeremi, Matisse, Nas
    Zion, GG, Trendon, Jabari
    WCJ, Nnaji, Drew

no thanks on zion. i'm not giving up our best trade asset in over a decade for a broken zion.

it should give us all pause that NO is even willing to consider this. if he were even remotely healthy, the Pelicans would continue to build around him.

and we know our negligent front office will not do its due diligence from the medical front (see: GP2weeks).

do you have any actual counters to my statement?

we have actual evidence that they either: 1) didn't even bother to do a physical for Payton before the signing... or worse, 2) did a physical and still went through with the signing.

not exactly inspiring confidence that they'd suddenly right the ship on a guy has had seemingly chronic lower extremity issues. if Zion is actually available in a trade, the only reasons are medical. teams don't go around giving up 22 yr old all NBA caliber talents every summer unless something is seriously wrong. you can choose to jam your fingers in your ears to ignore this, but i hope Cronin will be more vigilant.

If this were to happen Nurk would surely have to be moved.

    Zion and Nurk wouldn’t work.
