He literally was the franchise. The only reason they got any national tv games. He's a cash cow. And they have invested tons into his health and conditioning and if they want to cut bait now, that's a massive red flag for me.

The closest I found in recent history is Porzingis to Dallas. But he was neither a superstar nor on a long term max contract.

And you can very legitimately argue that it worked out better for NY to trade away an oft injured big for picks.

Givony (ESPN) is sure they don't.

"I've been told New Orleans is not trading Zion," said Givony on the Zach Lowe Podcast. "And no interest in trading Brandon Ingram. I would be very surprised if anything ended up happening there at two or three.

"They were the No. 1 team in the West last year when Zion went down with the injury. If he's healthy, which he rarely is, but when he's healthy, he is easily one of the best players in the NBA. So I don't see it happening. That was pretty much shut down to me as a possibility of Zion to Charlotte.

"Or Portland? Either one," said Zach Lowe.

"Or Portland," said Givony. "They haven't even spoken with Portland. I think New Orleans has made some calls, just to see what it would take to get to one, get to two, but I don't think it went past that."

...or as someone 'fixed' it, winning with Dame. Zion might be the kind of guy that could make that happen because he would be the best player on the team if he was healthy. Dame would still be the leader, but Zion would affect winning at a higher level....IF.

It was to let him know that they had let go the Asst. Coach he was closest to.

Bill Simmons claims Zion being traded for sure this week. I would think that means to Charlotte for Scoot.

I am extremely bitter that Charlotte might trade the pick. I'm going to laugh when it blows up in their face.

just curious...is there good reason for me to accept that Givony is more informed than most other talking heads?

[Simmons Podcast] I had somebody tell me yesterday that I trust, Zion will not be on that team (Pelicans) on Thursday. They are like "You watch!"

IMO, if Joe trades #3 for Zion that will be his demise.

Bill Simmons is not a reliable source not saying he is a bum but I would take what he said with a grain of salt cause there is so much out there and 90% of it is prolly BS at the moment .

Well..... it's a big swing. Many of us have been begging for a big swing for years.

I'd say it's at least 60-40 that it blows up in our face. There are too many red flags.

    To the capologists here,

What is Zions salary number if traded before July 1? He is a BYC.

Trying to work thru the math, but we might be able to get both Zion and OG with just Simons and 3 if I'm doing this right.

I don't' think it's gonna matter. I think Charlotte takes Scoot and then auctions him off to the highest bidder.

IIRC, before July Zion's salary credit to the Pels is his current salary, 13.54M. For the team trading for Zion it would be the average of the total salary he's owed over the number of years...so about 34.7M

13.54 vs 34.7M is a huge differential and probably impossible to bridge without a 3 or 4 team trade. Probably need to wait till July

Or keep him. I think he's undeniable vs what Miller brings and his workout/interview which matters.
