That doesn't help us. Trading #3 for Siakam and needing to pay four guys $30m+ a year is an L in my book.
Disagree. I think it could battle for home court and depending on matchups get past a few teams. I'm expecting Sharpe to take a step to consistent 15-20 ppg scorer as well. Also, people really undervalue Siakam as the second banana. I would say the ceiling of guys like Scoot/Miller is about where Pascal is now.
There's your issue. You're putting an expectation on Shae, which I'm not doing. However Shae progresses will be great, but I'm not factoring it into any decisions with team building this summer. But you do you.
It better be if $120m+ is going to four guys on the payroll so... "best team we've fielded in a decade" is not that high of a standard considering how much you'll be paying them.
I would not bet on my house either way. It all depends on matchups. If Minnesota does not choke in the 4th quarter/OT play-in game against the Lakers, LA ends up playing Denver in round 1 and never makes it out of the first round.
This is weird because I'm not so strangely extremely excited. We have the number 3 pick in a three player draft. There is absolutely no telling what might happen. There are dozens of trades that could happen with the pick outgoing to build around Dame. We could decide on a youth rebuild and trade Dame. Although I would frustrated we could try to straddle the line and just make our picks and hope Dame is cool with it. So many possibilities. It's really exciting time to be a fan of our team and being depressed right now is extremely strange because I think everyone should be elated.
I just don't see how Sharpe would get enough shots to score like that... he'd be the fourth or fifth option behind Dame, Grant, Siakam and (perhaps) Ayton. Which would be GREAT if that team were good, but I see a bunch of empty scorers and while we might make it to the second round, we'd also have four massive contracts with three of the guys on the older side. I'm definitely not saying need to clear the runway to let Sharpe get his, but I think he'd have troubles scoring at that level with that roster makeup.
I'm super-excited, too. I think I've gone over the worst-case scenario in my head so many times that I can't be disappointed. I'm also a bit more optimistic (after accounting for the aforementioned worst-case) based on what the Blazers did last year at the draft by taking Sharpe.
There sure is a lot of PTSD going around in this forum. Olshey is gone! Dame wants to stay! Cronin has given no indication whatsoever that he is in over his head. He's cleaned up the mess quite a bit, has assets, the #3 pick, and orders to make a move. To quote our old friend Wheels, It's a Great Day to be a Blazer!
Coach Billups would bench Shaedon immediately after making 3-4 buckets in a row. It was like clockwork, Sharpe would start heating up then get benched for Simons. Of course this circumstance doesn't apply to every contest, but it was definitely there. Billups did the same thing with Nassir, and even Watford at times. After a tough loss last season, one of the post game reporters delicately hinted that Coach Billups used a messed up lineup, yanking the Blazers bench guys after Portland had stormed back into the game with fast paced young bench player action. Coach Billups objected to the idea he was making rotational mistakes by stating the infamous "I'm riding with my guys."
