I’m not miserable, it’s just basketball after all.
I also haven’t been shitting on him, I said I don’t think he’s likely to win a championship.

No regards for his talent? Because I have noticed that 12/17 of the last top PG prospects (no combo guards) taken in the Top 6 have panned out and become All-Stars. Cade and Ivey should make it 14/17. Maybe Fultz makes it 15/17 someday.

The game is simply catered towards point guards now so chances are high that he will become an All-Star. With his skills, he looks to be a perennial All-Star, at minimum.

    .......
    .....

.....That said, and though I will be cheering Scoot Henderson on, I completely agree with everything you just wrote.

I think Scoot-Sharpe, due to possible defensive lapses and lack of pure chemistry, will have a similar trajectory as Westbrook-Harden or Carmelo-Iverson. Superstar duos that score a ton in a vacuum but don't exactly go anywhere (probably because they're too talented to fall back into the lottery) and of which, one of those stars cannot shoot.

To balance this, the Blazers will need to find a third star at the 3-5. But that star will need to be able to shoot so they can open up the floor (you can't just have one shooter in Sharpe, you need multiple). Meanwhile, they will need to be able to defend, as well. This is why the OKC Big 3 was capable of reaching the Finals at a young age because aside from having three super talents, in general, the three stars simply balanced each other's strengths and weaknesses out.

Because it's not like Westbrook-Lebron-AD won together, right?

I was hoping that, Portland, with Amen complimenting Sharpe and Dame/Simons, you would have a level of depth and starpower that each contender has (often featuring 1 superstar and 3 All-Star/borderline All-Stars with a good bench). Let's just look at the recent champions as examples: Nuggets (Jokic, Murray, Gordon, MPJ), Warriors (Steph, Klay, Draymond, Wiggins), Bucks (Giannis, Jrue, Middleton, Lopez), Raptors (Kawhi, Siakam, Lowry, Van Fleet).

Portland was missing those dynamics this past season due to Sharpe developing and Nurkic being out while having a weak bench. But it had the pieces for a future contender within its grasp - Dame+Grant+Sharpe+3rd pick/Amen Thompson with guys like Thybulle, Simons, Eubanks waiting on the bench while you potentially draft Murray, Leonard Miller, and Nnaji to bolster the bench. Because it's not like Portland didn't look like a contender earlier in the season. It just needed a few things to close the gap. And I don't think Portland fans understand what Joe Cronin just tore down tonight.

If he doesn't figure this out, which it's not going to be easy due to how rare it is to find reliable wing/forwards, that Cronin avatar of yours will be the icon of this forum, four years from now.

Don't mean to be a Debbie Downer but I just think realistic expectations should be had and I'll gladly be wrong and I'll gladly take the mocking over being in an existence where the situation I described above is real.

I finally check his g-stats and they aren't eye popping type of stats. His per was only 13.5 and someone gave me heads up his defense rating was 122 but of course I don't think anyone actually played defense down there but his offense stats 96. So this is not blowing me away at all. I seen some highlights that's about all.

That team, the Ignite. They're not a normal GLeague team, they're like an exhibition squad. They try to get their guys noticed in certain games. You can trust that Scoot was one of the top 3 guys available.

I'm both late and a bystander on this, but I mean....yeah, he's unlikely to win a championship. 18 players played on the Nuggets last year out of 539. (3.3%)
    Last year was 17 of 605 (2.8%)
10% of NBA players ever have been on a championship team ever in their career. I'll give you a player having a 90-97% chance of not winning a championship.

Now, about 30-40% of All-NBA team players have won ever won a championship (haven't done all the math on that recently). So even if you think he has all-NBA potential (I do), he's still more unlikely than likely to win a championship.

This is a lot to read but I’ve never said he isn’t talented or won’t be good.

In fact, I agree with you. A lot of guards do extremely well. That’s the issue. The fact that so many guards do really well means that… it’s not that valuable of a position IMO because it’s so easy to find another one.

I think the thing you may be discounting some is that the Thompsons, while intriguing athletically, have a non-zero chance of ending up like Emoni Bates, where they look great athletically doing showcase stuff in a glorified AAU schedule, but don't translate to playing against grown, skilled men. While you could say similar things about Scoot, he's been playing against almost-NBA talent.

Sigh, my whole premise for … months now… is that you essentially need a top 5 player who is at least 6’7 to win a championship. So if you have a top pick, you better draft a player that fits that mold, not a short guard.

That's weird. The few times I listened in over the past couple weeks he was fully on the Scoot band wagon. I think he even said it was time to move Dame.

If Dame decides to move along, it's nice to have Scoot waiting in the wings. To have a duo of Sharpe and Scoot is big upgrade on the defensive end...Something this team has been missing for some time.

fucking awful questioning man. let this kid have his shine without pestering him about dame.

amazing maturity and patience from Scoot to not let this phase him.

Our media is awful man. Just awful. And Fentress is the last festering remains of that garbage lineup of Oregonian writers from the 2000s.

haven't been around for months  But that's interesting....I feel like there are a ton of counterpoints. GSW is an anomaly but they fit. MIL with Giannis and DEN with Jokic (and TOR with Kawhi) prove your point, but none one of those were drafted with a top pick. In fact, the only top 5 picks in the last 15 years who've won titles (of any height) were those who played with Lebron (Kyrie, Love, Waiters, AD).

Still can’t believe a potentially generational pg just fell into our lap.
