I tend to agree with you on this. We're trying to do moneyball, without the strategic or analytical advantage.
Glad to hear that he thinks the best move was to keep the pick. And he picked BPA over need which I respect. Trader Joe hasnt been so good, but draft Joe... i'm liking that guy. Loved that he thought about the long term of this. Thats the smart way for this, and hes selling me on Scoot. My man is jacked up for Scoot!
Its why going to get Zion or some other player for the #3 would have been fucking stupid. Zion cant see the floor, then we lose a #3 and probably Dame too when he sees we mortgaged the rest of his prime for either mediocre or an oft-injured player. This was the best thing we could have done for now and the long term. Anything else is just impatience. These rookie contracts are gold. Now, Joe still has a lot of work, but he set it up very nicely.
i'm 100% fine with maximizing assets and setting up future moves. i wanted us to take scoot. but he did NOTHING else to even try to build a roster that can compete anytime soon. he sold us on this two-timeline stuff. but his moves indicate that the only timeline he's thinking of is the future. simply keeps kicking the can down the road.
How do you know what Cronin tried to do? He may have failed to do things, but I doubt anyone here knows what moves he did or didn't try to make.
Are you saying he cannot play small forward at all? Or that is not his full-time position? Why, unlike what Cronin said in the presser that is the basis of this thread, should we get hung up on position and size, rather than talent and skill? If guys like Payton and Powell can play the 3 in stretches, it seems weird that Sharpe would not be able to match up with guys like that when they're at that spot. Cronin stated in this presser that Sharpe can swing there, so... *shrug*
"trying" gets a kudos now? at the end of the day, he didn't. pat on the back for trying... uh maybe trying.
I'm gonna say "mortgage the future " is quite the overstate. Putting some great veteran players using today's and a few future picks, around arguably the best player in the franchises history, is not putting the franchise in peril. There would be more potential great picks after Dame retires. Unless we're all going to be dead in the next 5 years because of Mega Earthquake, War, Meteor, or environmental disaster. At that point those future picks won't mean JACK SQUAT!
Interesting that Cronin said they measured Scoot at 6'2.5" barefoot... that's .75" taller than Dame and means he's actually pushing 6'3.5" or 6'4" in shoes.
I said nothing about kudos/praise... you stated he didn't try and I'm asking how you're aware of what he tried to do. You brought up trying, not me.
This team is in good hands with Joe Cronin. The dude is a leader and has surrounded himself with quality talent. If this were about building a team, he would thrive. The fact that he needs to walk the tightrope of building a team while dealing with fans with intense devotion to a particular player must be a nightmare.
That was the report form a week or so ago. The report was just under 6’4 in shoes. Pair that with a 6’9 wingspan.
