I'm going to repost this because I think it's important. They have different games. They're both point guards though, but they attack a defense in different ways. Here are some key stats: Scoot 2FGM %AST - 35.6% 2FGM %UAST - 64.4% 3FGM %AST - 42.9% 3FGM %UAST - 57.1 FGM %AST - 36.5% FGM %UAST - 63.5% Dame 2FGM %AST - 15.7% 2FGM %UAST - 84.3% 3FGM %AST - 51.6% 3FGM %UAST - 48.4% FGM %AST - 31.5% FGM %UAST - 68.5% In terms of 2 pointers vs 3 pointers Scoot %FGA 2pt - 81% %FGA 3pg - 19% %PTS 2PT - 64.3% %PTS 2PT MR - 19.7% (mid range points) %PTS 3PT - 13.4% %PTS FBPS - 14.3% (fast break points) Dame %FGA 2pt - 45.3% %FGA 3pg - 54.7% %PTS 2PT - 33.4% %PTS 2PT MR - 6% (mid range points) %PTS 3PT - 39.2% %PTS FBPS - 8.6% (fast break points) So 81% of Scoots shots are from 2 pt range, and he is assisted on 35.6% of those shots. Dame only attempts 45.3% of his shots from 2 pt range and is assisted on 15.7% of those shots. Scoot cuts and moves without the ball. He attacks. Most of Dame's assisted shots are three pointers. Scoot also has a high percentage assisted three pointers (thought he doesn't take many threes.)
Assuming Ant is traded in this scenario, and Sharpe gets 32 minutes a game at SG, that leaves 16 minutes for someone else at SG, and part of those 16 minutes could be with Thybulle. So I wonder how many minutes Dame and Scoot will get together. Maybe it will depend on the matchups. Against taller SGs, Thybulle gets more minutes? How ever Chauncey allocates minutes in October could be different than how he does it in March.
The problem is Ant isn’t in a position where we can get optimum value out of him. The best trade package I would agree to would be to BRK for Cam in a S&T. I wouldn’t be willing to give more than the Hawks 2nd next year as add-ins though.
If I was the coach, I would be trying to get Scoot and Shae 30 minutes each, at least. Try to get Dame down to 34 minutes per game. PG: Dame - 34 / Scoot - 14 SG: Sharpe - 30 / Scoot - 16 / Thybulle - 2 SF: Thybulle - 30 / Little - 14 / Sharpe - 4 PF: Grant - 35 / Watford - 13 C: Nurk - 30 / Eubanks - 12 / Watford - 6 I think this could change and a few minutes could be handed out to other players here and there, but that's the 9 man rotation that I would see at the core. Other rookies might get minutes. Maybe Knox. I'm not sure. This is only assuming that Ant is gone.
Keep in mind that if Ant is gone then the minutes at SF will not be Thybulle, but to the guy we traded for. So I think Thybulle's minutes will be at SG....unless Little is moved too and Matisse would then need to back up the SF.
I think dame and Scoot would be fun to watch on offense. D might be lame, but that’s no different than what we’ve seen for years from our guard play. But Dame and Scoot two different dogs on O, Dame with CJ or Ant are much more similar with their offense so it’s lame, redundant, slows the game…
Perfect world, yeah... I'd love to see us trade him for OG or another starting caliber small forward. I'm just not sure what kind of value he has right now.
I think it would be awesome. Mister inside, Mister Outside. Plus a potential lethal facilitating tadem. I like that they drafted a spot up 3 pt. shooter in Murray. I think he will surprise many and has all the ability to be great, not just good.
So many act like Dame is butthurt. I seriously doubt that. Dame is a generational talent at the top of his game. He's driven. He knew there was a better than even chance they'd draft Scoot if available. Dame wants more talent to compete. He also wants more veteran presence. That makes a ton of sense. Guys who've done it before. I'm gonna say Joe will add some very good veterans to help the team win now in the next couple of weeks. Time to walk the walk.

Of course Scoot and Dame can play together. Scoot has a much different skillset from Dame's, compared to CJ McCollum. And the Blazers with depth made it to the conference finals with CJ McCollum. The big difference between CJ McCollum and Scoot is that Scoot is a legit high-skilled passer. And he's a much superior athlete who can and will attack the hoop and dunk over people regularly, and push the pace whenever he can. I will point out again that it was the tandem of James Harden and Chris Paul, which seemed like a very odd fit, that won a franchise record 65 games with the Houston Rickets. Eric Gordon was a key part of that team too.
Coach might run a 5 guard lineup, just to be the ultimate goober. Ant Keon Scoot Sharpe Thybulle at C
Scoot is definitely an underrated cutter and screener. Sets up cuts really well and also has shown the instincts to catch on the run and get into the paint if the defense loads up and he's spaced alongside another ballhandler on the opposite wing/slot. Having another guy that can consistently touch the paint will naturally lead to more catch and shoot opportunities for Dame as well.
Agreed. Completely. Now is the time to be positive, if not homer-ish. It’s like New Years. But I completely agree. As far as Dame (which I saw you mention in another post)…. I feel like it’s more media drumming up false narratives than it is Dame. Does Dame want a competitive team he can run with rather than a rebuild? No shit, yes. But Dame, up until now, been a loyal dude and has walked the walk. I don’t think he begs out. I think he lets his preferences known, which is reasonable. He also is a wise, untitled man that knows he’s making stupid amounts of money to play ball.
I want to highlight some key datapoints from what I posted. Many of us considered CJ a ball hog, and someone who would dribble the ball to death. He also wasn't really a pure three point shooter. Percentage of 2PT shots Scoot - %FGA 2pt - 81% CJ - %FGA 2pt - 62.2% Simons - %FGA 2pt - 46.2% Dame - %FGA 2pt - 45.3% So Scoot shoots most of his shots from 2pt range. CJ is second. Simons is third, Dame fourth, etc. Number of assisted 2pt shots Scoot - 2FGM %AST - 35.6% CJ - 2FGM %AST - 22.3% Simons - 2FGM %AST - 29.0% Dame - 2FGM %AST - 15.7% So clearly Scoot moves without the ball and cuts a lot. That's good news. Simons is clearly benefitting from standing and waiting for Dame. 68.4% of Ant's three pointers were assisted. 66.5% of CJ's threes were assisted. 51.6% of Dame's threes were assisted. Scoot doesn't take many threes, and only 42.9% of his threes were assisted. So it will be interesting to see how that changes if he plays next to Dame.
