What veteran Center can we bring that protects the rim?

Ok, I know it's my 2nd thread today, don't be mean to me...

Bringing Al Horford really improved the Celtics defense, he's probably untouchable for them right now but what center can we bring that is older, smart, does the little things on defense and can really improve the team.
    My idea, Theddeous Young (Old).

    What say you?

The reason I started this thread is I remembered how good Marcus Camby was for us near the end of his career, also Juwan Howard...
I also wouldn't mind bringing back RoLo for this role of older Center who plays defense

    Another good option: Taj Gibson.
A superb defensive big, played sporadically for the Wizards last year but with Porzingis' departure could actually have a bigger role next season.

My personal opinion is that we won't bring in any player older than 30, unless they are either very, very good or very, very, cheap.

RoLo doesn't really play modern NBA defense, but I like him anyway.

Also, the player we need needs to rebound the heck out of the ball...

Ok, I've checked, and both RoLo and Taj Gibson are UFA after their last contract was a veteran minimum.
I say bring one of them, even for a younger team, veteran presence and leadership is important plus I haven't seen much of RoLo since he left us but I've watched a lot of Taj Gibson and he brings the type of defense we need inside

BroLo is on the market, though...
I'd stay away--for all of his defensive accolades I think it's one thing to look great rim-protecting for Giannis and Jrue, but another if you need to cover for Dame (or Simons, or Grant, or all 3). But your OP isn't wrong in that it's a decent strategy--I just haven't scoured the league to see where guys like Horford or Camby or Mbah a Moute or XXX are available.

Don't forget we still have both Watford and Winslow, our defense at PF is Solid. Also Grant is not a bad defender either.
Our center rotation tough is currently what? Nurkic and Eubanks? One is too fat to get of the floor and one is constantly flying around, getting a few blocks but giving us a dismal defensive presence.
Someone like Taj Gibson at Center would stabilize our entire defense while giving us good interior defense alongside Watford/winslow

Jarret Allen, Capela, Claxton are about the only ones I am interested in.

Winslow is a free agent and has a major injury I doubt he's on the roster and if he is shouldn't be penciled in for anything except the 15th man.

Taj may have 10 years ago, isn't he about 40 now? I thought he retired.

Yeah I'd like these targets or possibly even Ayton.

ALL of his positive stats combined added up to 6.5. All 5 of them…

Capela seems easily gettable, although he seemed like he was starting to decline last year.

Taj Gibson is like 37 years old. He isn't going to stabilize anyone's defense.

NO -- anyone who says were good at PF cause of Wat and Justise are just wrong cause if this was true would the Blazers have drafted a PF with the 2nd of our 1st round picks -- NO. Wat as of now is a 10th to 12th man type and Justise my guess is he will not even be ready to play til the new year to all star break similar to GP2 he is really messed up on the injury side of things. I will need to look over the FA pool of PF / C and such but all I know is if the Blazer go out and sign another guard 6'4 and under then this team really is screwed.

I have read this before and wonder if his "poor" defense against centers clouds our judgment. He is not a center but was needed there. I wonder how much better he would look alongside a rim protector. Hell, I am not even sure he played alongside Nurk more than a handful of games. The bottom line is although he has not shown to be a good defender I am not sold that he can't be against most PFs.

Ed Davis, Boogie Cousins and Dwight Howard are all cheap and available. I don't mind Rolo but he's so slow. Kanter gives you rebounds but no rim protection. I don't mind Mason Plumlee coming back or even Cody Zeller or Jacob Poeltl

Poetl? he'll likely get 15-20 ml from Toronto and we have in reality no realistic avenues to acquire hum, especially so in dealing with TOR who values all their players as a level above!
