Every other conversation with me. Didn't think I needed to clarify that. I asked follow-up questions, you finally answered them. Thanks!
Your first statement is still inaccurate. Glad we're on the same page. Hope I didn't upset you, that was not my intention!
I say nonsense. The Blazers were #10 in the league in defense the year they had Wes, LMA, Rolo, Nico with Dame. Did he magically learn to coach defense when he had the roster and magically forgot when he did not? The 2017-2018 team that had a semi-healthy Nurk, 2 good defenders in Harkless / Aminu and ET next to the small, defensively challenged backcourt of Dame + CJ was 8th in the league. Next year, they fell down to 15 (but Nurk had his big injury) If you gave Terry a good defensive roster, he produced good defense. It is as simple as that. Anyone that tells you he could not coach defense presents alternative facts. Terry Stotts teams played good defense when they had the personnel and time to work with it. You gave him shit defensive roster, you got shit defensive performance, just like any coach would. (Pop's teams were 30th - worst in defense last year, 2017-2018 was the last year a SAS team was top-15 in defense, did Pop forget how to coach defense? Nonsense. Terry was not the best coach in the world, but he was a lot better than he was given credit for. He optimized the play of very unbalanced, deficient rosters to continuously drag these teams to the playoffs. I know people will say that Dame dragged these teams to the playoffs, and they would be right, because Terry optimized the play around his only reliable star to make it happen.
I think coaching is the elephant in the room with the Blazers moving forward. He's not here so this thread is about him in a completely other context. Fact is the last two seasons we've sort of lost the respect of the league with our rookie coach and tankathon. This draft redeems some of that. Terry has had a stable career compared to a lot of coaching hires that didn't pan out. There's a reason...he just got off the Blazers books when this season ended and got snatched up by a contender with a great team of familiar faces. I'm happy for him. They love him there already.
Ya got me there! I didn't study the statistics. Just me eye test. Then he really is a good balanced Coach!
Ahh. So we get a coach that loses a team and he's still considered a good coach? So much more to coaching than calling time outs? Seems like I'm talking to someone who has never even tried to coach. You do understand Terry Stotts got paid for two years to relax right? I'll bet the league doesn't disagree with me as much as it does you.
Totally agree here. Chauncey to this point has not been given enough to compete. He has however seen enough that i hope he continues to grow as a coach and can improve in areas he has struggled.
