my money's on Austin Rivers. Mo Bamba has no ground game at all, and once they hit the mat it's over.
He's very athletic, he's a really solid shot blocker and rebounder, he can shoot the three well and finishes around the hoop. He doesn't put the ball on the floor too well and he isn't some kind of facilitator. I really like him... for what we need.
I'm not a CAP or CBA guy. So he gets waived by Lakers, what's the chances we can get him, what would he cost us?
I think Mo can get more than the TPMLE but I think the full MLE would get him here and maybe even leave us with some extra MLE money after that.
The guy literally hasn't played the last couple years because he hasn't been good enough on an Orlando Magic team and a Lakers team. He's not worth the MLE. Not now. I would take a flyer on him but wouldn't be surprised if he was absolute trash.
The 'idea' of Bamba seems to have always been greater than the production or the reality of Bamba. He has skills that would fit incredibly well on the Blazers, but he seems not to be able to put those together. He has only played over 20 mpg once in his career. He just doesn't seem to be able to stay on the court or be able to be valuable enough to his current to to be on the court. But his Per/36 numbers still seem worth taking a chance on....for a 'prove it' type contract. Per 36 minutes (career) Points - 15.0 Rebounds - 11.6 Assists - 1.8 Blocks - 2.7 FG% - .476 3-pt% - .359 Given the almost complete lack of height and defensive length on the Blazers, he certainly seems worth a shot here.
Right, I don't think he's a guy you can build your team around and out of that group of Magic 5s I'd obviously rather have WCJ, I also think that he did get on the court, look at the numbers but Mo Wagner was getting some of those minutes and Bol Bol was getting some of those minutes. That doesn't mean that Mo Bamba isn't good he just isn't good at passing, he's not the best at the P&R at this point in his career, he doesn't put the ball on the floor well so he has limitations. He makes open threes, he dunks the ball when he gets it down low and he rebounds well. Look at his per 36 numbers. They're pretty damn good.
Not getting minutes on a horrible team is not a good sign. He has been there for years. Then, he gets moved to the Lakers in a change of scenery and can't get off the bench. I wouldn't count on him being a major contributor, but I would take a flyer on him and other similar former lotto picks. He obviously has skill, he just hasn't put it together yet. I'd take him over Eubanks as a backup.
Bro I was fully expecting someone to post this, and was going to do so myself. Low and behold, you delivered!
There are a few reasons why some critics might consider Mo Bamba to be a less effective player in the NBA: Limited offensive skill set: Mo Bamba is primarily known for his size and shot-blocking ability rather than his offensive game. At the time, his offensive skills were still a work in progress. While he has shown potential as a shooter with a decent three-point shot, his scoring ability inside the paint and overall offensive repertoire were considered limited. This can make him predictable and easier to defend against in certain situations. Lack of strength and physicality: Bamba's slender frame and lack of strength were seen as potential weaknesses in the NBA. His ability to hold his ground against stronger opponents and compete for rebounds was a concern. Physicality is an important aspect of the game, especially for big men, and Bamba needed to work on developing his body and adding strength to be more effective in the paint. Inconsistency and limited playing time: In his early years in the NBA, Bamba struggled to find consistent playing time. This lack of consistent minutes on the court can hinder a player's development and prevent them from gaining valuable experience. Bamba's limited playing time made it difficult for him to establish a rhythm and showcase his skills consistently. It's important to remember that player evaluations can change over time, and Mo Bamba may have made improvements since my knowledge cutoff. Evaluating a player's performance requires considering multiple factors, such as their development, opportunities, and role within the team. However, Mo Bamba also is known for sucking ass.
By ChatGPT. We are talking about (at best) the 9th man here. Probably more likely the 10th. You could do a lot worse (for bigs) than Mo Bamba.
No argument there. Question is how much will it cost to bring him in. Full MLE--no dice. Tax MLE...maybe. BAE, sure, no problem.
using BAE hard caps a team. Unless there is some significant cap reduction for the Blazers, I'd wonder if they can afford to hard-cap themselves again. The might be close to the apron when everybody is signed (Grant-Thybulle-Scoot-Murray-Rupert-Eubanks?). And that would pretty much kill their TPE option
More and more bigs are getting cut (PHX just cut one that I am also interested in). I wouldn't be surprised if he only gets the minimum this year due to the new CBA fears.
